It's been 7 years since I watched it but wanted to share my thoughts about the ending. It's a good film, has humour and the performances from the actors are great. However, the narrative has a questionable conclusion. As I remember it, the producer guy has a lot of money and is basically making a horror movie version of Tommy Wiseau's The Room. (For anyone who has watched The Room it's the greatest, worst film ever, a true wonder of the filmic world).
The segments from the producer's film are highly entertaining. However he's unaware of how much his film "sucks". There's an artist on the production crew who has "better" ideas, and they are in the conventional horror movie sense. But in another sense it would have been far more interesting to see the producer's final vision realised. At the end the crew just use him for his money and he's relegated to a sinecure position while everyone pretends to be his friend. So while we're invited to identify with the protagonists, they're not acting in good faith and I found this to be problematic. I just felt sorry for the producer guy and his zany vision nixed in favour of a design by committee approach.
