Downbeat and elusive psychological drama
Red-Barracuda27 June 2014
This is certainly a somewhat odd film. It remains elusive even by the end. Its story has a mysterious young man arrive in a city and seeks out a middle class couple, whom he is intent on murdering. His thought processes and motivations are left largely ambiguous and it's left to the viewer to decide just what it is they make of it all. It's a film with a pretty slow pace on account of the very, very long single one-shot takes that make up a large part of the running time. They are very well executed but long takes do slow down the pace of a film, there's no getting away from that. On occasion they are used in somewhat disturbing ways, as in the case of the first murder which is a somewhat protracted affair. It's a messy, unglamourised, naturalistic violent murder which reminded me somewhat of a similar scene in another earlier Polish film, A Short Film About Killing. Hardkor Disko hasn't got the clearness of purpose of that film though and is one that is more about tones and mood than anything tangible. It's certainly very well made, especially given the minuscule budget, but it's very bleak minimalistic approach isn't very engaging and I did not fully connect with it myself.

I loved it.

Don't you like when movies leave you speechless? Well I do and I loved that movie.

If I understand right this movie had almost no budget. Almost everybody worked probono, everything was rented from a friends etc. During watching it, I would never said that.

Weird, interesting and speechless! Leaves you so many questions and in "We want more" mood :D Do not want say more, just watch it, it is really worth it.

There was only one scene which was too long for me - Main character pulling white sheet out of the car on the field. Other thing really great. So true and so crazy.

I watched it at Polish Cinema for Beginners and only thing I would love to is that Krzysztof Skonieczny came there for himself for discuss after the movie, because it would be so interesting to hear from his mouth what was going through his head while writing scripts. :) Even though young Jasmina Polak was simpatico also :)
