Feel good anime that will make u smile
vicarious_life23 January 2015
When i stumbled upon this anime i didn't expect much of it since it was new and relatively unknown. But now, after i watched it,i am so glad that i found it.I had some spare time so i decided to watch it on weekend, but that plan was ruined because i ended watching it on a Friday night,a 12 episode marathon. This is a feel good anime that gets u hooked from episode one.Animation is quite good, and characters are extremely likable.I was smiling the whole way through, and there were loads of things in this anime that reminded me of my childhood. The story is described well in summary,so i won't repeat that.I would recommend this anime to all,and believe me u wont regret watching it.

One of the best animation series of the slice of life genre has to offer, Barakamon feels like good old times with friends and loved ones filled with arguments and laughter.
CasuallViewer1 June 2020
Barakamon tells the story of Handa Sei, an up and coming calligarapher, who acts impulsively and causes a commotion after being criticized for his submission in an exhibit. He is then sent to an island in order to reflect on his actions, and not known to him yet at the time, to show him something much more in life apart from the world of calligraphy.

From its first episode, to its very last, the series utilizes every moment to build upon a supportive community and characters brimming with personality. It revisits childhood innocence to those who seem to have been overcome with the responsibilities that comes with being an adult. Accompanied by beautiful and fitting music tracks for its opening (Rashisha by Super Beaver) and ending (Innocence by NoisyCell), Barakamon gives a feeling reminiscent of times filled with warmth, innocence, and calm.

This is an anime series that one can always come back to a few times to lift up spirits and reconnect with their youth.

Lovely

I found this anime a long back but i really hesitated in watching it cuz i felt this wont be any good since there was nothing much to it with just 12 episodes, but when i really watched i found it surprisingly good i felt like "Man this is lovely, why did i even hesitate". This kept me smiling the whole time, Honestly my smile never went down after i got hooked. There is no super natural touch in it, its a very plain story with a lot of fun. It's a really good anime with a decent animation and a very lovable characters, It has just 12 episodes, Go watch it, you wont be disappointed.

Simple yet beautiful..
JWick2328 August 2021
The synopsis of this anime is so simple but that's what got me hooked into it, it isn't a shallow school type of slice of life and neither at the end of track it isn't something that could break you and question your existence. A simple story not too complicated or deep and gives us themes about everyday life.

The story is so simple but wonderfully crafted. It doesn't have action, monsters blowing buildings apart or anything like that. In fact its the opposite since it is a slice of anime. Everything comes back connected to reality and at times when medium of most animes is filled with fictional writing it's sometimes relaxing to come back to something that feels grounded and realistic. I really liked the tone series gave off. The pacing is great and it starts off amazingly well right off the bat. It has a slight touch to the comedy nothing too exaggerated or coming off to hard. It is light hearted and has a few powerful touches to invoke some slightly strong emotions from the audience. Nothing too deep or has any associated acts with heavy themes. Just a friendly, heart warming, and a unique slice of life anime which was all I wanted. Relaxing at the same time a bit crazy.

The characters are nothing too extensive. They are all very likable and that's guaranteed. But at the same time we don't care deeply enough about them because at the end of the day we know they are all going to be fine since for one thing the show isn't depressing or is going to hit us with the grim side of reality but instead show the good side of it. And also we haven't gotten to know more about them. But all in all I think you will definitely like the characters in a short period of time. They are all different from one another and have their own unique quirks.

The music is wonderfully constructed. And it has unique character designs no characters looked like a copy and paste of one another. The landscapes in some of the scenes just give me a peace of silence. It really uplifted my mood. The intros and outros are both great. Unlike most of the animes I watch where I skip the intro to get to the episode often, the intro of this anime is just so watchable and gets you into the right feels.

The rewatch value is a mixed bag. Its such a short anime series only 12 eps. But t might get a bit repetitive and boring for some people after a while but seriously it's like a short therapy session just watching a single ep just made me smile and be happy.

Overall quiet an enjoyable series.

Memorable: No Rewatchable: Maybe..

I got connected to anime from get go and you will love the characters more by every passing episode.it shows how to live a happy life to its fullest enjoying every tiny moment without worrying much about success or failure. This anime does put smile on your face and you would end up wanting to live the life that protagonist had lived in island.

I loved this anime. It was so beautiful and feel good as well as funny. All the characters are so wonderful. It reminds me of several feel good tv shows where the person from the big city movie to the small town in Alaska or an island or small town. I loved it.

An anime that grows, entertains and teaches.
manabrockz28 August 2020
The anime has a different charm puting the emphasis on the community life and the value it holds over an isolated individualilstic life. Naru herself puts a smile in us whenvever she comes . The characters are all so loving and adorable. Plus you will get to seea different picture of rural life in Japan. It is fun and has so much to teach. Handa kun is a kid in an adult body but towards the end we find him maturing both in his caligraphy and in himself.

Some of the jokes were laughable, others were not
Irishchatter13 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I thought some of the jokes were rather childish and overpowering. I thought the characters Naru and her pals were fierce annoying like yeah they are meant to be kids, however they just looked annoying to look at and even how they always try to pee off Handa the whole time! They could've given those characters different personalities rather then have them all act like Naru in my own honest opinon!

On a positive note of the anime, I quite enjoyed the jokes that were actually funny and the main character Handa was quite a like able guy. I loved how he's so creative with his calligraphy and that he is quite the type who thinks outside the box. Very wise character out of the anime I've seen I tell ya haha!

Although I may have some of my own cons to this anime, it was quite a good entertaining show that I highly suggest if you want to have a laugh!

Good
coles_notes1 May 2023
Following Handa Seishuu, a young, promising calligrapher in Japan who is sent to live on a remote island after a violent outburst after a poor competition result gets him into trouble at home. A classic slice of life series on self reflection and questioning values, all the characters in this were quite fun, and it was great to flip on in the evenings after a stressful day. Only 12 episodes, the series leaves room for more but does end sufficiently for me, although I of course do wish there was more. Luckily there is a spin-off prequel series Handa-kun which I'll likely check out at some point. A plot thats never really complex, its instead its the simplicity and honesty within this series that makes it a joy. If you'd like a short, lighthearted anime would recommend.

An enjoyable and heartwarming little show
Vincent_Fjodor14 September 2021
I stumbled across this anime accidentally. At first I wasn't sure about it, but it turned out to be pretty enjoyable. There were some heartwarming moments in it and I liked the characters (with the main character's mother, who only appeared in the last episode, as an exception, she annoyed me so much). However, that is as far as it goes: a cute, heartwarming, slice of life story. It was nice entertainment, but not the kind of series that continues to linger in my mind after I've finished watching it. Not to mention it seemed to lack a certain level of depth that could have made the story much more interesting.

Overall I'd say that with a decent animation style, a decent soundtrack and a decent story, this anime is just fine, and I'd recommend it if you're just looking for some lighthearted entertainment. If you're looking for something more than that, however, this anime will not live up to your expectations.
