IMDbTV Pick: Showtime's "Penny Dreadful"

The subtle trick Showtime's "Penny Dreadful is that it is far less about the blood, gore and the specter of gruesome death than the sharp pain and exhilarating pleasure of living, and the terror of feeling alone even in close company. Read our review in the May Picks section.

The Centre an attack on comedy that must cease
14 April 2014 | by (Limerick, Ireland) – See all my reviews

Please God make this stop. This is one of the worst efforts at comedy I have ever seen. It is offensive, cruel and takes some very unfunny swipes at every stereotype imaginable. It finds transsexuals hilarious and has the never before seen Catholic woman convert to Islam. She spends the entire show in a Burka. We are given a caricature of an Irish Traveller Woman that is about as accurate and as funny as cholera. She appears to spend the entire show trying to be as foul mouthed as possible. I cannot believe that this show was commissioned, one can only but hope that it lasts only one series. Any more would be an assault on comedy.
