First Look: Bright & Sparkly 'Jem and the Holograms' Rocking Out

26 February 2015 3:03 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

A low quality image giving us a first look at the 80s cartoon come to life in Jem and the Holograms has been making the rounds after appearing in a magazine, and now Universal Pictures has released an official high-resolution version that we can check out.  The original animated series began airing in 1985 and ran for three seasons, following the adventures of the Jem, the musical superstar alter ego of a young woman named Jerrica Benton who, with the help of a holographic computer called Synergy, is able to clandestinely perform rock concerts with her friends. But the movie may end up a little different than that. Look below! Here's the first image from Jon M. Chu's Jem and the Holograms from Universal: As a small-town girl (Aubrey Peeples) catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters (Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Hayley Kiyoko) begin »

First Official Photo And Synopsis Land For Jem And The Holograms

26 February 2015 2:40 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Yesterday saw a fuzzy, scanned image from Jon M. Chu’s Jem And The Holograms hit the web after an eager-eyed fan spotted it in the latest Elle. In an attempt to keep things totally outrageous, or something, Universal Pictures has now dropped a higher quality version of that same image along with a brand new synopsis.

Based on the Hasbro animated TV series, which was a huge success back in the 80s, Jem And The Holograms steps it up by dragging the rocker chick into the modern age. In her latest adventure, the songstress – and her trio of holograms – will find success after one of their songs becomes a viral hit, presumably on YouTube.

For this live-action iteration, a new cast of humans will be rockin’ out, including Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau and Hayley Kiyoko as the leading quartet. Ryan Guzman, Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis are »

First Look: The Girls Rock Out In First Official Photo Of Jon M. Chu’s ‘Jem & The Holograms’

26 February 2015 2:18 PM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Jon M. Chu’s career took off after his dazzling visual pyrotechnics on "Step Up 3D." He quickly landed the gig for “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and was in the mix for “G.I. Joe 3” and “Star Trek 3.” Instead, he chose a fairly different left turn: an adaptation of the popular 1980s cartoon “Jem And The Holograms” (though not so different if you consider the cartoons were really in the same time slot as “G.I. Joe” and “Transformers” and animated by the same Hasbro-paid people). “Jem And The Holograms” is in the can and comes out later this year, and Universal has provided a first look of the girls in the band Hayley Kiyoko, Aubrey Peeples, and Stefanie Scott. Here’s the official synopsis: As a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents »

This 'Jem and the Holograms' Thing Confuses Me

26 February 2015 2:13 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

So, Universal has released the above first look picture from their upcoming Jem and the Holograms movie and I wonder, without any other information how many people today even know or care about what this isc I know because my sister loved the cartoon when she was growing up, back in the mid-'80s, but seeing how it ended its run in 1989 and hasn't had any sort of resurrection, at least not that I know of, who exactly is the audience for this moviec Perhaps the cast gives us some idea as Aubrey Peeples stars as Jem along with Disney Channel stars Stefanie Scott ("A.N.T. Farm"), Aurora Perrineau ("Pretty Little Liars"), Hayley Kiyoko ("Lemonade Mouth") making up the rest of Jem's girl band, that being Kimber, Shana and Aja respectively. Here's your peek at the very first picture of the Jem and the Holograms movie! Star Aubrey Peeples looks completely different than she does on Nashville as the girl group's leader, complete with some hot-pink face makeup. Stefanie Scott, Hayley Kiyoko, and Aurora Perrineau make up the rest of the band, while Molly Ringwald, Ryan Guzman, and Juliette Lewis are all set to costar. The picture looks alright, but we're going to need to hear some music before we can properly judge the adaptation, due out on Oct. 23! »

Here's Your First Look at 'Jem and the Holograms' (Photo)

26 February 2015 6:30 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

The flick isn't due out until later this year, but fans finally have their first look at the live-action reboot of '80s cartoon "Jem and the Holograms."

The image, featured in a spread in the March 2015 issue of Elle magazine (and helpfully scanned and uploaded by io9), showcases three members of the Holograms: Jem (Aubrey Peeples), Aja (Hayley Kiyoko), and Kimber (Stefanie Scott). We assume drummer Shana (Aurora Perrineau) is just out of the frame. From this photo alone, it's hard to gauge just how well "Jem" will capture the spirit of the animated series. Sure, the girls sport wild hair colors and over-the-top instruments (especially Jem's giant guitar and Kimber's keytar), but without hearing the music, it's hard to tell just how truly outrageous the action will be.

Still, the image gives us hope that filmmakers did the series justice. After all, nothing screams '80s more than a cheesy laser light show. »

It’s been nearly a year since we got our first poster for the upcoming adaptation of 80s cartoon Jem and the Holograms, but now we have our first official look at the flick.

The blurry image is taken from the latest issue of Elle, and has been blown up from its original small size – hence the poor quality. But we think you get the idea. Look – a keytar!

Check out the image below:

Directed by Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Jem and the Holograms stars Aubrey Peeples (Nashville) as Jem, Stefanie Scott (A.N.T. Farm) as Kimber, Aurora Perrineau (Pretty Little Liars) as Shana, and Hayley Kiyoko (The Fosters) as Aja with Juliette Lewis (Natural Born Killers) and Molly Ringwald (The Breakfast Club) in unspecified roles. The film is being produced by Jason Blum (The Conjuring), along with Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun. »

Want to see what 'Jem And The Holograms' look like in live-action?

25 February 2015 2:00 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Truly, truly… out of focus. Right now, this is the best look anyone's had at the cast of "Jem and the Holograms," and believe it or not, there are people who are very excited (and worried) about what's coming. I have a friend who recently made a joke about the cartoon, and when I told her that there is a live-action reboot coming this year, she flipped. It was a potent reminder that all of these properties have their true believers, people who bonded with this thing in childhood and who now take it very seriously as adults. It means something to them. Meredith Woerner over at ion found an image from the film in the March issue of Elle magazine, and it's kind of amazing that we've seen nothing from a film that is set to be released in October of this year. I'm curious to see how it plays, »

New Image Lands For Jem And The Holograms

25 February 2015 1:47 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Thanks to the sleuthing skills of the folks over at io9 (via Collider), we’ve now got a first proper look at the updated reboot of animated eighties cartoon Jem And The Holograms. Uncovered in the pages of Elle’s March issue, a tiny image has surfaced showing the ladies of the titular band rocking out onstage. This marks the first new glimpse at the movie since the official website launched, showcasing a close-up of all four band members.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, the feature will embrace a similar story to the series as it follows “a small-town girl who is catapulted from underground video sensation to global superstar. She and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden.” As part of its modern update, the ‘video sensation’ obviously refers to a viral YouTube hit that transforms the band into a major success. »

Chu has signed on to bring another '80s Hasbro cartoon series to the big screen: Jem And The Holograms. The live action movie will be produced by Jason Blum (Insidious, Paranormal Activity) and Scooter Braun. Nashville actress Aubrey Peeples will play Jem, Stefanie Scott, who starred on Disney's A.N.T.
