They cast multiple cats to play Bob but in the end, Bob played himself for most of the film.
In one scene Luke Treadaway (James Bowen) is seen feeding Bob Dairy Lea Dunkers. This was Bob the Cat's food of choice during production.
The third film starring an animal that Roger Spottiswoode has directed. He also directed 'Turner and Hooch' (dog) and 'Midnight Sun' (polar bear).
Luke Treadaway (James Bowen) and Ruta Gedmintas (Betty) have been dating several years before appearing together in this project.
On one of the buses an advertisement for the film Midnight Sun (2014) can be seen. This film was also directed by Roger Spottiswoode

One of the reasons Luke Treadaway was cast was because he can play guitar and sing a bit himself. That is his actual voice during the busking scenes.

At James' book signing at the end of the film, one of the people getting his book signed is the real James Bowen himself.
