For Regina and Bay, they are forced to deal with the consequences of their actions, as Emmett tries to make peace with Matthew.
With the storyline of Regina's old neighborhood becoming a bigger and bigger focus, so does the complicated topic of trying to improve a neighborhood vs. maintaining its history and culture. This is amongst other issues like cyber bullying, sexting, the morning after pill, and cheating. Making for quite the pleasing summer premiere.
Topic 1: Past Mistakes Bay & Emmett
After having sex, Emmett seemingly is back to being hooked on Bay and Bay has sort of mixed feelings. For while she admits that Tank is perhaps a nice guy she got too involved with, at the same time she has become something which she hates. But realizing that through it all Emmett has continuously been there, and obviously she is more attracted to him than Tank, she goes to break up with Tank. That is until Tank reveals not only has he left his pledge, but now is ostracized. Which is very significant since Tank is in school thanks to being in football and the majority of his team were pledges. Making it so that Bay is his only real visible friend at the moment. This info leads Bay to delay breaking up with Tank, but by the end of the episode, after Emmett comments on the crazy day he had, you can sort of see she is ready to take her stock out of Tank and reinvest in Emmett. The question is, how quickly, and how soon, will this be done?
But while Emmett is waiting on Bay to break up with Tank, he has his own problems. After getting his butt kicked by Matthew, and even trying to make peace, Matthew seems ready to embarrass Emmett to the fullest. He posts their back and forth text everywhere and since Emmett doesn't have the mind to spin this into shaming Matthew for cat fishing him, he is forced to play the victim. Though things get really bad when Melody gets involved. She is ready to take down Matthew, but when Matthew reminds Emmett that, assumingly, he has his nude pictures, it seems Matthew has a serious trump card because when it is time to go to the principal Emmett starts making excuses. And though the principal lets it go, Melody damn near roughs up Matthew like she is from East Riverside. A perhaps foolish decision for it gets her suspended.
Topic 2: Won't Back Down Daphne & Regina
Meanwhile, Daphne and Regina are both uniquely dealing with the aftermath of someone throwing a brick into Regina's shop. Daphne decides to find out who the perpetrators in East Riverside are, and confront them, as Regina slowly tries to get back in Wes' good graces. Starting with Daphne, after consulting an old friend Monica, she learns who the possible culprits are and ends up with Bay tagging along to try to help. So, after some flirting, and us learning Bay is a killer at pool, the games end and Daphne reveals herself to be Regina's daughter and she gets the backlash Regina perhaps is more deserving of. For there is this fear, and anger, that outsiders thinking they are improving the area, really are just looking to erase their culture, erase their history, and ultimately push out the people from the place where generations of their families grew up. But, spoken perhaps a bit too soon, Daphne lets these kids know Regina doesn't work with Wes anymore, which seems to placate them for now.
Thing is though, with Wes talking about giving the project away to another company, perhaps bit by bit, Regina realizes she has to choose between two possible negatives. One being to let her neighborhood probably get picked apart and turned into who knows what, or being part of what changes her neighborhood, with the hope that she can steer Wes toward making decisions beneficial to the community. So, for her community, she rejoins Wes. Which solves one problem, but unfortunately she still has quite a few at home to handle. Such as dealing with the omissions to the truth she gave John, Kathryn and Angelo about what happened. Which if it wasn't for Daphne talking to Angelo, and Bay blurting what happened, she might have gotten away with her fib. But since her kids told on her, most of the adults are quite upset with Regina. So, currently the main solution is Angelo moving in with Regina in the Kennish's guest house. However, Angelo can only do but so much and now with people knowing Daphne's face, Bay's face, and knowing where Regina is, I do wonder how bad the show may paint those living in East Riverside. Will there be physical violence on the cast, maybe just on property, or just harsh words exchanged?
Things To Note
Bay getting the morning after pill isn't a big subject for this episode, but when John finds out about it near the end of the episode it seems like in episode 13 it will be a more central focus.
