Christian Movie Focused on a Young Adolescent Boy's Coming of Age

This is a Christian movie--with a very strong faith narrative (esp. the second half)--something that should be clearly understood by potential viewers. The acting starts out a bit 'stiff' but the first half effectively communicates a plot involving typical family issues that happen with a boy (main character) just starting adolescence (i.e. rebellion, a search for self and identify). These issues are 'lightly' handled in a manner befitting a family-friendly movie. The second half of the film becomes solidly steeped in Christian ideology, with a rather predictable, faith-driven outcome, but also has some genuinely moving scenes as viewers see the personal growth of the movie's young protagonist, esp. when dealing with a tragedy. The setting of this movie seems to imply that, absent the boy's removal from the harmful influence of an urban environment, his future would have been bleak--an unfortunate message, I think, for any urban families that may want to enjoy this genre of film with their children.

This is a great religious story. It really tugs at the heart strings. The only thing that falls for the movie is the acting isn't the best.

I was amazed at the quality of the movie. I had heard it was a first movie for most involved in the production and wasn't expecting a high level movie but the filming, audio and acting was great. Very good story line with humor and drama that pulls you into the movie. There couldn't have been a dry eye in the house even for us tuff guy's that never cry....there was a strong current of tears flowing from my eyes and those around me. In this day where so much of the entertainment world puts out high violence, foul language, and sex in their films and other entertainment, it was very refreshing to be able to go to the theater and watch an excellent movie without that usual hype and to have God's message presented. You have to see this movie, it will move you inside in a very positive way.

Loved The Current

We found out about this movie last summer and waited... and waited... and waited until it was finally out in the theaters. My husband and I brought our 8 year old son and we all LOVED it! Fortunately, I had been warned to bring tissues! We all needed them. My son's first comment was "when can we buy it?" Well, after a second public showing (he begged and brought friends), we now own it. Such a great story, fantastic message! Too often, Christian movies can dance around the tough subjects and give the idea that life is easy if you just have faith. Sadly, it's not that easy and this movie does such a great job of portraying life and it's struggles. We truly loved it and can't wait to share it with family and friends.

Very moving

We enjoyed this movie, for it's family content & positive outlook. The actors are very believable & the story line holds your attention. We never know where God is leading us, but if we follow Him, all that we do will bear good fruit. We are made to be a blessing to others. This movie blessed my husband & I. We've watched it twice now & see new things each time.

I saw it at the A M C theater in Eden Prairie MN. Sold out crowd. People just hung around after the showing talking about the film. The film brought a great message of hope. We may give up on ourselves and others, but God never gives up. In this film we see the love of God breaking through and restoring our faith and hope not only in others but in Gods amazing love and forgiveness to all. Christian and non-Christian alike attending the showing and were moved by message. I know a number of individuals that saw the movie numerous times, bringing friends and family to enjoy this beautiful message of hope and restoration. I would recommend any film produced by Scott Peterson. He is a great writer and knows how to bring a message home in a way that will engage and move anyone regardless of age, race or religion. A must see film for all.

This movie, The Current, brings you to real life situations with real people. It brings tears and tears of joy. This movie has been shown in a lot of states. It brings you into a rural setting with good scenery which we sometimes forget if we are in a constant city lifestyle. It would be worth your time to view this one. We have seen it 3 times and you see something new each time you view it. The actors and actresses fit their roles well. It has humor, but also real life. It doesn't have violence or bad language which is a plus for present movies. It is a movie that the whole family is able to view without worry of what your children will see. It even brings you into older buildings, campsites, and city sites that we may not see or think about. Thank you for this creation.

Pulled my heartstrings good. 😢😭😭😭 Thee Ed message was solid. Also had some humorous moments that madd me laugh out loud. The kids life was very relatable and his lessons learned were good reminders for us all

Great But Made Me Cry Too Much

Great Christian movie. Great acting, great everything. Some good laughs. Not boring. It's entertaining. Great spiritual principles. But too sad in the last parts of the movie. Nevertheless, teaches good lessons.

Loved this movie! I thought the actors in the movie played their parts really well. I agree with another review that the movie got better as it went on with some really touching and thought provoking scenes that make you think about the meaning of life, faith and importance of encouraging others.
