The first Hungarian feature-length project financed with crowd-funding. The filmmakers got 10,000 Euros using the crowd-funding site Indiegogo in Spring 2014. This amount was the highest among all previous Hungarian music or film related crowd-funding campaigns.
Boddah (the production company behind the movie, formed by director Bálint Szimler, DOP Marcell Rév and producer Gábor Osváth) self-distributed the film in Hungary.
Intended as a continuation and a closure to the online music video series Kodály Method (2011), which ended in 2012 after the filmmakers felt that the 11 videos were enough for them at that time. In 2014, when they decided on the making of Balaton Method (2015), they originally planned 8-10 music videos to be included in the film, but ended up having 18.
The segment of the band Punnany Massif was released online two months prior to the release of the whole movie, and it served as a teaser trailer.
A total of 17 bands can be seen in the movie, while the 18th, Bajdázó, can be heard (and briefly seen) during the end credits.
