Jules (Courteney Cox) needed to talk to Chick (Ken Jenkins) about what happened, and Chick agreed, given he held Grayson's (Josh Hopkins) hand when they both reached for the creamer. But Chick was in a kidding mood despite thinking Bobby (Brian Van Holt) and Jules were still married. Chick did agree living closer to Jules would be better than trying to work on his big ranch. He was even up for drinking their beer and for playing Slap-a-Dope...which Grayson was dumb enough to ask what that was. Jules was on-board...as soon as she found a real estate agent who could help. (JULES: What, it's funny when he does it?)
Jules and Laurie (Busy Philipps) were closer than ever, particularly since Travis (Dan Byrd) was about to graduate college and they had to plan his big day.
JULES: If you could have seen that drunken, hair-sprayed beach trash and that dip-spitting mullet head who conceived that kid, you would never have expected this.
LAURIE: Which one were you?
JULES: I can't remember.
But Laurie was already prepared with several cameras, tissues, and she even planned to walk in on fake crutches that were holding wine in them (red AND white!). Jules was over the moon...much to Ellie's (Christa Miller) chagrin. Ellie didn't have to do a thing, not even render judgment over Laurie's cake designs.
In fairness, Ellie wasn't the only one upset. Bobby had made it a habit of getting Travis completely awesome stuff for his graduations, and he was stumped for this one. For pre-school graduation, he built the sewer layer from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987) in an actual sewer. (BOBBY: We played Ninja Turtles for three hours, got sick for five months. Totally worth it!) For kindergarten, Bobby took Travis to his first pro wrestling match to see Captain Carnage win the title. For high school, a 70-foot inflatable gorilla with Travis' face on it. How could Bobby top that? That's what was making him panic. Andy (Ian Gomez) thought perhaps lighting up some fireworks at the ceremony might work, so they go to purchase some. But they want the real stuff, so the guy selling them shows them the real stuff. And his badge. And a set of handcuffs.
Not having much luck on finding a house in the neighborhood, Grayson reassured Jules they'd find him a place. They could even discuss him moving into their house. Right before Tom made them scatter talking about his first "encounter" at a retirement home. Jules took what Grayson said as he would love for Chick to live with them. Yes, it's as bad as you think, with Chick heckling Jeopardy! (1984) players, interrupting Grayson's late-night guitar time by watching WWII battles on the History Channel, and even mocking Grayson, who thought Lee Harvey Oswald killed Kennedy. And Jules joined her dad in all of this. Grayson was upset and let Jules know, not knowing Chick was using their bathroom and could hear the whole thing.
Ellie was not taking well to Laurie suddenly being Jules' new BFF? How not well? Since Ellie figured Laurie boinked her way into being #1 on Jules' list, perhaps she could boink Travis and get back in Jules' good graces. Yes, she did this right in front of Andy with zero shame. But Laurie couldn't help twisting the knife in that she was Jules' new best friend. Which resulted in Ellie taking Travis' cake and smashing it against the wall.
Jules tried to apolgize to her father about what Grayson said and claimed both of them wanted Chick there, but Chick was no dummy. (CHICK: If your husband wants me here, he's out of his damn mind.) He went through the same thing with Jules' grandfather (on her mother's side). Chick didn't want him around, given he used to sit on the porch in his boxers and eat pickes and yell at birds, but he did it because he loved his wife and did whatever was needed to make her happy, much like Grayson was doing now. Jules admitted Chick was right, but Chick wanted her to tell Grayson that. Jules found Grayson later on debating whether to apologize to Jules and bring her a dozen of her favorite cupcakes or stick to being right and eat all of them himself. He was halfway through the cupcakes and still on the fence. But she apologized, saying they should have discussed it first rather than her thinking that's what he really wanted. Grayson said the most important thing to him was making her happy and he would do whatever it took. He insisted Chick move in. Which made her jump him right there at the mall...with plenty of witnesses.
Ellie came to Laurie to apologize for smashing the cake, and Laurie said she was only having fun with Ellie and didn't mean any of it. Ellie conceded Laurie touched on a sore spot, that she wasn't a priority in Jules' life anymore with all that was going on. But Laurie reassured her that Ellie was always a priority in Jules' life, right after wine and Travis. And sometimes before Travis when he was being extra artsy-douchey. Laurie even admitted she sometimes got the higher priority with Jules because she was sleeping with Travis. This was true, as Jules insisted on getting a lot of pictures with Ellie at the graduation ceremony.
But now what could Bobby do to top the 70-foot gorilla? That was the question occupying Bobby's, Andy's, and Tom's thoughts. Tom thought graduation was a milestone, not just about where someone was going, but where they had been as well. (TOM: Treasured memories. Birthday parties, Little League games. Your first kiss. Taste of grape bubblegum on Cindy Llewellyn's lips. It's nostalgia.) That sparked Bobby into an idea: bringing Captain Carnage to Travis' graduation. He set off to locate Captain Carnage while Andy figured out a Plan B when Bobby failed. But Bobby didn't fail; he got Captain Carnage to the graduation. Everybody was all smiles...until we discover Andy's Plan B was to bring Big Daddy Payne, who happened to be Captain Carnage's sworn enemy in the wrestling ring. Which was supposed to be cool because they were actors and this was all fake, right? Ummm...
ELLIE: Well, this ceremony got SO much better.
JULES: Is that Big Daddy Payne? He once signed my boobs at an auto show.
LAURIE: I saw a lot of these guys as a kid. My mom would usually go home with the winner.
ELLIE: You two are such white trash.
But for Travis, seeing Bobby take a chair to Captain Carnage's face was the best graduation gift ever! It even inspired Bobby, Andy, and Tom to form their own wrestling team. And Tom was out for revenge, given he wanted to stab Captain Carnage for rubbing chili pepper in his eyes.
ANDY: Um, was he talking about our wrestling team or was he really going to stab Captain Carnage?
