For a big fan of Norwegian duo Knutsen & Ludvigsen, "Knutsen & Ludvigsen og den fæle Rasputin" is a major disappointment. It's infantile and boring. The screenplay is pretty awful, although there is some humour that works. The funniest people to work on this production were the production designers... the background details, and some of the in-jokes, are the only things that make this film the least bit funny.
The screenplay should have been built more around the songs of Knutsen & Ludvigsen, rather than the extremely dull, clichéd super villain story we got. On the other hand, the lack of songs spared us from the unfitting singing voices of the guys playing Knutsen & Ludvigsen. They did a good job with the dialogue, but their style of singing does not fit these songs at all.
I don't know what went wrong. If surviving Knutsen & Ludvigsen member Øystein Dolmen has simply lost his touch, or if the studio ruined his screenplay... Anyway, "Knutsen & Ludvigsen og den fæle Rasputin" joins the ranks of terribly mediocre Norwegian animated movies, like "Solan & Ludvig: Jul i Flåklypa"... The animation does not live up to the high standard of other films from Qvisten Animation either. The film has been well received in Norway, which is incomprehensible to me... It must be the nostalgia factor.
