A beautiful mess

When I first saw this show on MAL, I was surprised that I hadn't heard of it before. It was made by A1-picture, a very popular studio. But after I watched it, I get it. I won't write much about the show, cause I don't care enough.

The first 4 episodes were actually pretty good. The character interactions were fun and the character designs were really good. It wasn't very unique, I had seen many shows like this. But it was still fun to watch. After that, the interactions got less and less fun. I don't know if the quality actually got worse, or if the scenes were too similar. but I definitely enjoyed it less. But then there were the last few episodes, where they tried to make it a little more story focused. And here's where the most forgettable part comes. Cause nothing happens. Of course, plot points occur, but nothing of any big consequences. I don't know why that part had any significance. It was cool visuals and evil villains.

So yeah. It was mostly the technical aspects that saved the show from being the worst. So overall, it was a strong 6

World Conquest Zvezda Plot
Tweekums4 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This series follows the activities of the Zvezda group, whose leader wants to take over the world. Strangely its leader, Kate Hoshimiya, is a little girl. We are introduced to the group via runaway schoolboy Asuta Jimon who runs into Kate then gets sucked into her conspiracy. Since the Japan depicted in the series is effectively a police state the Zvelda group come across as the good guys; not something people wanting to take over the world come over as.

Like all organisations seeking world domination Zvezda has a secret lair however theirs isn't in a volcano or on a remote island; it is in a building in Tokyo with a sign outside! And rather than having hoards of minions there appear to be a small group of members. Opposing Zvezda is White Light; a group working for the government whose leaders include some of Asuta's classmates and the evil Tokyo governor who is his father!

I found this entertaining enough with some amusing moments and some fun characters although ultimately it was fairly forgettable. The fights are entertaining in a fairly silly way that suited the series. The animation is of a decent quality and the character designs are pretty good; especially when they don their disguises. Overall the series was okay and had enough good moments to be worth watching but I feel I'll have forgotten what it was about fairly soon.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Fantastic

This show is absolutely amazing, and needs another season. I would highly recommend watching it if you haven't already.

Animation - The visuals in this series are absolutely beautiful, both the characters and the background. The closing credits even have their own visual flair. The fight scene animation is fluid, and all the characters have unique designs. There are some pov shots in this show and it feels like you're actually looking through the eyes of that character.

Story - The logic found in this series is that of a little girl with a wild imagination, but at the same time it makes coherent sense. This show is really funny, interesting, and at times somewhat disturbing. Its hard to predict where its going to end up, and its very entertaining.

Characters - Most of the characters are fully fleshed out and interesting. I don't want to say a whole lot, but this is a very enjoyable cast. This show manages to make annoying tropes work very well.
