NOT FULL STORY

When i watched this movie i could not forget about Larry Nassar and USOC, USA Gymnastics, MSU, the cover up of his abuse of children for decades. When you see movie remember that it was 10, 100,1000 times harder for her to be abused by doctor of team, to be force to silence by U.S. Olympic Committee and U.S.A. Gymnastics Committee and move forward to goal to be best gymnast in the world.

Sacrifices...

"The Gabby Douglas Story" is a Biography - Sport movie in which we watch the life story of Gabrielle Douglas, the first African American to become the Individual All-Around Champion and the first American to win gold in both the individual all-around and team competitions at the same Olympic Games.

I liked this movie very much because it is based on a true story and it presents very the difficulties and the obstacles that Gabrielle Douglas and her family had to overcome in order to succeed. The interpretations of both Regina King who played as Natalie Hawkins and Imani Hakim who played as Gabby (14 - 16 Years), were simply amazing and the both made the difference. The direction which was made by Gregg Champion was very good and I enjoyed the way he presented the difficulties and the sacrifices of Douglas family for the success of Gabrielle. Finally, I have to say that "The Gabby Douglas Story" is a nice and simply beautiful movie that I highly recommend everyone to watch it.

The Gabby Douglas-Perseverance Succeeds ****
edwagreen29 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Regina King gives a career defining performance as the resolute mother of 4, determined that her youngest daughter shall succeed as a gymnast.

One weakness of the film was that it was unbelievable that the King character separated from her husband, a man she loved deeply because of his inability to obtain work. After appearing early in the film, he is never seen again.

Other than that flaw, we have a film showing deprivation, setting goals, ready to quit, but ultimate triumph prevailing.

S. Epaitha Merkerson appears as King's mother, the latter taking the family in after the split with her husband.

The film also depicts kindness by the Iowan family who took Gabby in so that she could train under someone she deeply admired and trusted.

The film shows that adversity may be conquered.

Outstanding. One for everyone

This is such a beautiful movie with a fantastic story and just so inspiring. If you enjoy movies like Eddie the Eagle, Cool Runnings, Wild hearts can't be broken and just inspiring stories about people believing in a dream then this is definitely one to watch and what's amazing about this movie is how current it is. Compared to all the others. The cast are excellent and so likable...each and every one of them suited to their roles and I think this movie reflects talent on so many levels. Definitely watch this! One for all the family which doesn't happen enough! Watch it!

Edited story and poorly told.

Warning: Spoilers
I admire Gabby Douglas so much so thought I would love the film but didn't. You have to wait two thirds of the way through before a proper complication actually arises ... and then it gets solved rapidly. Contrived and drawn-out scenes which are too obviously trying to be emotional are strewn everywhere in this film, while the effort she would have had to put in isn't represented well at all. Gymnasts fail moves time and time again. They fall a million times but keep getting back up and have to persevere until they finally land it. This movie made it look like a walk in the park. As if Gabby could just do everything first try because she's so amazing. Don't get me wrong, she is obviously exceptional, but to me it degrades her hard work when we never see her fall. So there's no tension when she's performing, just like there's no tension in any scene really. I thought I might get an insight into who she is as a person and what it was like being the first black woman to achieve what she did, but that's brushed over and basically ignored. You can tell the director was a white guy who didn't find that important. This movie does not do Gabby Douglas justice.
