Sundance 2017: Jaunt Announces Virtual Reality Series Reimagining of The Lawnmower Man Movie

1 hour ago | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

The Sundance Film Festival is just getting started in Park City, Utah, and virtual reality company Jaunt Inc. is heating things up at the winter event by announcing a Vr series reimagining of The Lawnmower Man, the 1992 film based on the Stephen King short story of the same name.

A far cry from King's short story upon which it is based, Brett Leonard's The Lawnmower Man movie heavily incorporated virtual reality in its plot. No details on the Vr series' plot are known at this time, other than the fact that it will be a "reimagination  of the film."

We have the full press release with more details on Janut's upcoming Vr slate below, as well as trailer for The Lawnmower Man film, which stars Pierce Brosnan and Jeff Fahey. In case you missed it, Scream Factory recently announced an upcoming collector's edition Blu-ray of The Lawnmower Man. Stay »

Shots Fired? While Talking Logan, Mangold Praises Fox's Approach Over Marvel's

1 hour ago | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

It's funny what happens when you've had a long enough winning streak: You cross over from being everything that's right to everything that's wrong.

While no one can argue with the success Marvel Studios has found while putting together its much-ballyhooed Marvel Cinematic Universe (McU), there's definitely a quiet rebellion forming- both within the fandom, and possibly within the industry. See, the way Kevin Feige runs the ship over there makes the situation almost like the kind you'd find in a TV writers room. He and his team decide what direction everything's going in, and then brings in writers and directors who can help get the McU there while giving them just enough wiggle room to put their stamp on it.

That sort of cohesive, all-in, "go team go" approach is paying off beautifully for them, and there's likely no reason for them to mess with that for the time being. »

Logan Director James Mangold Explains Why We Won't See Mister Sinister In The Movie

2 hours ago | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

At the end of X-Men: Apocalypse, an employee of Essex Corp. could be seen retrieving samples of Wolverine's DNA. As a result, most of us have assumed that Mister Sinister would somehow factor into Logan as the one pulling the strings behind Zander Rice (the creator or X-23). Well, it sounds like we can forget catching so much as a glimpse of the iconic villain based on comments from James Mangold. Talking to CinemaBlend about why Sinister isn't in the movie, explained that he wanted to avoid, "the kind of operatic highly-costumed, stroboscopic villainy" that's usually part of comic book adaptations.    "[T]hat’s not in this movie. Everything is kind of as real as we can make it," he added in regards to Sinister. "The movie is trying to kind of take a step backward from that kind of spectacle, so that we get another kind of gain, you know. »

Logan Trailer #2: Wolverine & X-23 Go On A Rampage

6 hours ago | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Today, 20th Century Fox released the brand spankin' new trailer to their upcoming film Logan, which is set to star Hugh Jackman in the role of Wolverine for the very last time.

Hugh Jackman certainly has had quite the run as Wolverine. Who’d have thought that the original X-Men film would have launched the longest running cinematic universe, and give Jackman more than half a dozen opportunities to portray the clawed mutant? We all had dreams that it would, of course, but the track record for comic book movies at the time was such that it didn’t seem likely. Now, with the upcoming release of Logan, that era is set to come to an end.

A couple months ago, we got the first trailer for Logan, and it seemed like a fittingly personal tale to end on. Rather than try and go for the more typical, world-ending story, »

Don't Expect Any Major X-men Crossovers In Deadpool Sequel, Say Writers

18 January 2017 7:32 AM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

With Deadpool coming out and taking the world by storm last year, you'd think Fox would suddenly want to put all of their eggs in Wade Wilson's basket. After all, people sparked much more to the low-budget, refreshingly edgy Deadpool than they did to the big, glossy blockbuster that was X-Men: Apocalypse. One prevailing bit of Hollywood logic would have you think they'd try to either get the Deadpool character into the next X-Men movie, or get some major X-Men players into the next Deadpool movie in order to capitalize on his popularity.

According to the writers, they're perfectly happy leaving Deadpool in his own little corner of the X-Men Cinematic Universe.

In a chat with Collider, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick made clear that they have no intention of bringing in any A-list X-Men to spice things up for Deadpool 2, and here's why:

Of 20 sampled films, 11 fulfill all three requirements of Alison Bechdel’s litmus test for female representation in storytelling, according to a new Bustle survey. The sample pool is admittedly subjective, with a mix of ten of the year’s highest grossing films, and ten of what the author deemed “the most buzzed about films.”

The top-grossing films of 2016 were:

Finding Dory

Captain America: Civil War

“Zootopia”

The Jungle Book

The Secret Life of Pets

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

“Deadpool”

Suicide Squad

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them

Doctor Strange

Read More:

Bustle’s most buzzed about films were:

La La Land

“Arrival”

“Ghostbusters”

“Moana”

“Moonlight”

Manchester By the Sea

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

X-Men: Apocalypse

Bad Moms

The Legend of Tarzan

To pass the so-called Bechdel test, a movie or story must have: At least two named female characters, who have a conversation, about something other than a man. »

Hugh Jackman reveals Logan Plot Synopsis

Hugh Jackman, star of the upcoming Logan movie, has taken to Instagram to reveal the official synopsis of the film. Also, director James Mangold promises that Logan will be a movie for adults.

Although the previous X-Men franchise film, X-Men: Apocalypse did not do as well as expected in terms of both box office and reviews, there are high hopes for the third Wolverine movie, Logan. Hugh Jackman, who is playing the clawed mutant Wolverine, Aka Logan, for the eighth time (ninth if you count the cameo in X-Men: First Class) has given us a short plot synopsis of the upcoming movie on instagram.

Jackman wrote the following… In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces. »

James McAvoy on X-Men, Split and not playing 'posh English dudes' anymore

James McAvoy is extolling the virtues of insobriety. He was at the San Diego Comic-Con in July 2015 doing early promotion for X-Men: Apocalypse, his third round as mutant godfather Professor X, and it unexpectedly turned into a wild celebration. “There was a big party, you couldn’t turn around without bumping into somebody off the telly. My mate Jesse was playing miniature golf in the middle of it. We were getting particularly drunk, and then I saw M Night Shyamalan.” They hadn’t met before. “He goes: ‘You’re James McAvoy!’ And I said: ‘You’re M Night Shyamalan! What do I call you?’ I was very drunk.”

Gambit Movie: Producer Confirms That Channing Tatum Is Still Attached To Star

13 January 2017 1:40 PM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Gambit is a great character, don’t get us wrong. However, giving him his own film was a decision that never fully grabbed me. Could it work? Absolutely. But the idea of a Gambit-focused movie wasn’t something that ever resonated with us on a base level. Last year around this time, the Gambit film was expected to hit production with a budget of around $150 million. However, with the success of Deadpool — a film with around a third of the budget — it seemed to prompt a need to go back to the drawing board.

In the time since Gambit quietly slid off the Fox slate, things have remained largely quiet. Fox released X-Men: Apocalypse and began its marketing push for the grounded Logan, which would act as Hugh Jackman’s official sendoff from the X-Men franchise. This left relatively little time to contemplate the fate of Gambit. Was the film still in the works, »

Hugh Jackman And James Mangold Reveal Two Frames From The Next Logan Trailer

The second trailer for Logan was classified late last month, but there’s still no sign of it. However, it is expected to be released online in the next week or so, and to promote it, Fox has now launched a creative marketing campaign. Called “1974 Frames of Logan,” fans were able to sign up to a viral site earlier this month, with the first 1,974 of them then set to receive a postcard featuring a frame from the preview.

Those are now being sent out, but Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold have shared their own frames today and the ones they have just so happen to be the first and final frames from the Logan trailer. Chances are that not all 1,972 of those remaining shots will find their way online, but a lot of them definitely will, which should give us an idea of what to »

X-Men 7 Rumored Title Is Supernova, Is It a Dark Phoenix Reboot?

12 January 2017 5:03 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Ever since X-Men: Apocalypse hit theaters last summer, fans have been kept largely in the dark about 20th Century Fox's plans for continuing the main X-Men franchise. The studio has announced a number of spin-offs, such as The New Mutants, X-Force and Gambit, but there is practically nothing known about how the studio intends to continue the flagship series. One of the more persistent rumors is that the studio will reboot the Dark Phoenix story line, which was told over the original trilogy. While that still hasn't been confirmed, a new production listing may have the most damning evidence yet that the studio is rebooting the Dark Phoenix saga.

The Dark Phoenix saga was largely told through 2003's X-2: X-Men United and 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand. However, the events of 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past essentially eliminated that entire timeline, creating a brand new timeline where Jean »

Channing Tatum Still Attached To Gambit Film

12 January 2017 2:53 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Fox’s X-Men franchise has certainly seen better days. After Logan, Hugh Jackman will be hanging up the claws and the last film in the main series, X-Men: Apocalypse, failed to impress. While it’s true that the studio does have some exciting spinoffs in the works like Deadpool 2 and New Mutants, there’s still a lot to be worried about. For one, we really don’t know what comes next after Apocalypse, though if recent reports are to be believed, it might just be X-Men: Supernova. Then, of course, there’s also the frustrating situation surrounding Gambit.

Stuck in development hell for what seems like forever now, the spinoff just can’t catch a break. Channing Tatum has been trying to get it made for years and numerous directors have come and gone. It was actually originally set to release in 2016, but for now at least, it seems »

X-Men Spin-Off Gambit Is Still Happening with Channing Tatum

12 January 2017 2:32 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Back in July, producer Simon Kinberg revealed that production on the Gambit spin-off was expected to begin in Spring 2017, although a concrete start date was not revealed. But then, just a month later, the project lost director Doug Liman, and that was the last we heard about it. The X-Men spin-off just keeps getting pushed back for a number of different reasons. Today, we finally have a new, albeit brief, update on the film, with confirmation that Channing Tatum is still attached to star.

The news came from Buzzfeed reporter Jarett Wieselman, who was present at the TCA Winter Tour today when producer Lauren Shuler Donner was promoting the new X-Men TV series Legion. Although there is no direct quote, the reporter revealed on Twitter that Lauren Shuler Donner told the assembled press members that Channing Tatum is still attached to star as Gambit in this spin-off. Hot Rumor: Has The Title And Plot For The Next Main X-men Movie Been Revealed? Scoop Confirmed?!

A few months back, we shared with you an official Lrm Hot Rumor regarding the next proper entry in Fox's X-Men series. In a nutshell, we'd spoken to a high-level source at Fox, who exclusively revealed to us that the next chapter in the X-Men saga would be a full-on Dark Phoenix movie, based on the storyline that was so popular in the comics and on the 90s TV cartoon.

Well, now there's another rumor hitting the net that may- or may not- confirm our report.

According to the industry publication Production Weekly, the next movie in Fox's mutant saga will be called X-Men: Supernova. While this was once rumored to be the title for Josh Boone's X-Men: New Mutants, the publication makes it appear perfectly clear that Boone's film will stick with its »

Rumour: The next X-Men movie may be titled X-Men: Supernova

Is This The Title Of The Next X-Men Film?

11 January 2017 9:24 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The X-Men franchise is in trouble. Actually, let me rephrase that. The main series is in trouble. The franchise itself is doing just fine, in fact. Deadpool is laughing all the way to the bank, and perhaps even the Academy Awards stage, and Josh Boone’s New Mutants is shaping up quite nicely. Then there’s also that proposed television show that has people excited. But what about the next film starring the core cast of characters? Well, right now we really don’t know what’s going on there.

20th Century Fox is apparently looking to reboot things given the poor critical and commercial performance of X-Men: Apocalypse, and they may use The Dark Phoenix storyline to do so. But that’s all speculation at this point because as of yet, the studio hasn’t indicated what route they’ll be taking, stating that they’re still figuring things out. »
