Storyline

The festival is a raging success. Kyle maneuvers between obviously jealous Tamara and Phoebe, who seems to want him back for band and/or love. Josh clearly hopes to get intimate with Maddy, smoothly pulls back when she seems not ready and just thus wins her confidence to dot it. Palmer watches Jett like a hawk, is easily sent on a wild goose chase but only finds the escaped' rascal innocently snoozing in the bus. Oscar and Zac pleasantly relieved when Evie soon tires of Matt. Failing to make up with Heath or Bianca, Montgomery pays Matt, sneaks into the couple's home and slips the bomb in her handbag. Perhaps it's because we got up to speed with the story lines in the previous episode or perhaps it's because a couple of things come to a head here but this feels less cluttered. The storyline with Ricky could probably have been covered in two episodes rather than dragged out over three and there doesn't seem much need for Tamara and especially Roo in this episode. But John and Marilyn get one of their best moments yet and it's one of the sweetest things on offer. And Chris makes the most of his two cameos as usual.

The Josh and Maddy storyline works okay:There's another example of Maddy being uncomfortable with sex and it's not entirely clear if it's been resolved.Josh finally stands up to Maddy, which will hopefully sort out Spencer's paranoia. And Maddy gets to clear the air with Evelyn, which is good to see addressed.

The main thrust going through this episode, even if it's mostly in the background, is Montgomery's increasingly erratic behaviour. The confident bully seems to have gone completely, replaced with a woman on edge who is even more dangerous. There's none of the earlier superiority in her interaction with Leah and Matt, with Tasma Walton knowing exactly what she's doing and almost managing to turn her into a tragic villain.
