In the opening scene, Nero runs into the main hall and sees his own statue "weeping" blood from its eyes. In a later scene, taking place several days or weeks earlier, Marius kills Basilius, collects his blood in a dish, and pours the dish into the statue's head. By the time of the first scene, the blood would have long since congealed and would not flow from the statue's eye sockets. See more
