Storyline

Youngsters gather enthusiastically for the music festival, almost without River-Bay tension. Jett feels cheated when he learns 'bribing' John by doing free chores was needless, but still feels it was worth it. Kyle's ex Phoebe plays as opening act and calls him, ex-band-mate, on stage to perform their old hit. Ethan drops by to ask the wins to return home with him, but they decide 'for now' that home is with Zac, who even gets Oscar to attend the festival, although he hates Matt taking Evie there. Spencer promises Roo to keep an eye on Josh and Maddy, but them not to tell her they share a tent. After failing to make up with Heath or Bianca, Montgomery buys a remote control bomb. "I'm going home for a nice quiet night in front of the telly"

There's perhaps a bit too much going on here, some of which might have been better off being set up in the previous episode or left until the next one.The two main threads leading to the season climax are Montgomery going over the edge and the return of Ethan but we also have to pay attention to John playing a trick on Jett, Roo getting Spencer to keep an eye on Maddy, Ricky's pregnancy trauma and a whole bunch of characters wandering through the episode to remind us they still exist.

There's a nice insight into Montgomery, who's slowly losing it and clearly has no purpose without the power she abused for so long. You almost feel a bit sorry for her when Heath and Bianca reject her pleas for mercy...until we see just how far gone she is.

Hannah is once again a bit over the top towards Ethan but he still doesn't seem all there and his appearance at the festival is worrying. Phoebe just seems to be there to get under Tamara's skin and Sasha worries about Spencer's slightly creepy focus on Maddy.Matt is a bit obnoxious and Chris is infectiously fun, while Alf and Roo are a bit more relaxed than they have been lately. It's nice to catch up on the characters but perhaps a bit too much at once.
