The scenes, with cast members, set in Sydney Australia, were actually shot in and around Perth, which is 2,000 miles away (as the crow flies), on the western, and opposite coast of Australia.

The emu, Kimi's proclaimed favorite bird, and depicted on the emblem of Dylan's school uniform, is Australia's unofficial national bird. Emus are flightless, as Kimi pointed out in her proclamation, which can be seen as necessary to clarify, for many, Dylan's later rhetorical question, "Do emus dream of flying?" It's all a clever tie-in with the paper plane theme.

The cricket game footage used in this movie is from Bangladesh tour of Australia, 1st Test: Australia v Bangladesh at Darwin, Jul 18-20, 2003, day 3, 15.1 and 17.6 ball. Both ball delivered by Gillespie.
