Storyline

A clown kills a Marine corporal with two rounds to his chest in Washington, DC; Gibbs and company investigate; McGee finds calls to the victim's second cellphone, and he traces them to a hotel; when Gibbs and Tony enter the room from which the calls originated, they find Fornell and Diane, the mutual ex-wife of Gibbs and Fornell; Diane says that she called Eddie, her recent boyfriend. At Gibbs's pad he finds Emily, the 13-year-old daughter of Fornell and Diane. In Eddie's car McGee and Abby find a clown's nose and minute traces of blood; the gang eventually find Eddie, who says that he's someone else, and that he knows the clown. Eddie and Fornell receive a call from the bad guy in charge, who offers a deal; Ellie makes a swap; Emily rejoins Fornell and Diane and draws them together, then she, saying that her name too is Fornell, arranges for the gang to bust the main bad guy. Fornell and Diane give Gibbs a bottle of booze and make a request of him. Written by DocRushing

Trivia

The phone that is handed to Bishop during the meet with the kidnapper is a Samsung Gusto, an entry-level flip phone for prepaid accounts. It was replaced by the Samsung Gusto 2 in spring of 2012, indicating that the kidnapper stocks his burner phones well in advance. See more »

Goofs

Early on Gibbs and Fornell are sitting in Fornell's parked car, a car with headlights on moves round them. The lit headlights are visible behind the parked car, through the rear window. Next shot should show the other car passing as the parked car is next to the curb and Fornell is behind the driver's wheel, and Fornell is the next shot, looking out on to the street. See more »

Sucky soap opera
11 December 2013 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Whoever wrote this "Devil's Triad" must have been longing for the soap operas of old...who really gives a crap about Fornell and his ex and their ludicrous sexual exploits, certainly not Gibbs. The writer had to contrive some sappy story about Fornell's daughter...what a waste of talent and time. All actors seemed to be just going thru the motions for this campy piece of fluff, supposedly showing off the "new girl's" talent and penchant for going "outside the box", even telling Gibbs his idea was bad...must be a rule # for that one somewhere, Tony. Whatever happened to a good storyline that actually showed some believable action and investigative work? It certainly didn't show up here. :p
