Conclusion: Divest from precious metals

This movie emphasizes the impacts of human greed on the environment and the lives of poor and indigenous communities. While watching it, I made the realization that the driver for this particular type of ecocide (mining for precious metals) is the rush to invest in Silver and Gold in the West due to the uncertainties in the global economic markets. While one cannot eat Silver and Gold and their true value can be debated, it is without a doubt that the local natural resources will be ruined due to the extraction processes and the indigenous communities will suffer for generations to come: the fresh water sources are contaminated, the soil is poisoned, the plant communities and animal habitats are destroyed. The locals may get a few jobs in the short term, but in the long term their true sources of sustenance, provided by nature, are destroyed to the point of no return. DIVEST from PRECIOUS METALS!
