Did You Know?

The title of this episode refers to the icing of the cake Carrie receives from her colleagues on her birthday. Its a reference to the computer strategy game "StarCraft" where the leader of the race Zerg is called "Carrie" and is usually referred to as "Queen of Blades", also the very basic unit of the Zerg is called a drone. As soon as the drone surveillance team gets a visual on Aayan at the remains of the attack site, Aayan senses he is being watched, and looks up into the sky directly at the drone that is watching him. With real-life drone surveillance, the person(s) being watched would have no way of knowing that they were being watched, not to mention from any specific direction. See more »

A Solid Return
7 October 2014 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

I wasn't sure what to expect from the continuation of Homeland, after series 3 seemed to drive the story away from the original themes of the show. Series three was ambitious and perhaps not as well executed as the excellent first and second series', However the conclusion of series did leave room for Homeland to perhaps move in a different direction and this certainly seems to be the case in the first episode.

We see new locations, fresh characters and are brought up to speed with how the main characters lives have progressed since the dramatic ending of season 3. By the end of the episode the themes and story-lines introduced suggest a return to form for one of TV's best series'.
