For the season's story arc, this episode plays an important role, but the Blacklister's gimmick feels a bit out of touch with the rest of the Blacklisters we've seen so far. Even though cyber-criminality is a very relatable fear for many, it did not feel very intimidating - in particular after "Ivan" was identified as a wizz kid highschooler with a crush.
Aside from the rather clumsy approach at the school itself, the things the kid did after acquiring this piece of technology - usable for all sorts of society-uprooting or extremely lucrative purposes - just felt a bit disappointing. You could've toppled banks, disabled governments, made Norway disappear.. but instead you use it to hit on some girl in the corniest way ever; a way that nobody in his or her right mind would ever fall for.
I love the series, and - as said - the season's storyline benefits from its existence, but this was no scary, fearsome criminal. Don't be so desperate, kid; listen to Meat Loaf and don't do thát.
