Charlotte Clarke : Who was on the phone?
Victoria Grayson : Oh, just a little surprise I'm planning for the shower.
Charlotte Clarke : Well, since you've suddenly gotten into the spirit of things, maybe you wanna make the welcome toast?
[sighs]
Charlotte Clarke : I lost my phone.
Victoria Grayson : Which relates how?
Charlotte Clarke : Well, I had the speech for Emily saved on there, and I don't have time to re-compose it.
Victoria Grayson : Mm.
Charlotte Clarke : [playfully taunting] Probably for the best, since I didn't inherit your talent for faking sincerity.
Victoria Grayson : It's called being polite. And perhaps we wouldn't have to be if Sara had responded to my appeal. I haven't heard from her all week.
Charlotte Clarke : Maybe because she's too busy sneaking around with Daniel. I noticed her texting with him this morning, so whatever carrot you dangled, it seems to be working.
[her mother grins]

Charlotte Clarke : Thanks for meeting me. I have no one else to turn to.
Aiden Mathis : [grunts] I find that one hard to believe, as you barely know me. And I can't imagine I got Jack's recommendation.
Charlotte Clarke : [leans over railing too] I know what you did for my parents, and I need you to do the same for me.
Aiden Mathis : Well, what are we talking about exactly?
Charlotte Clarke : When I went to Europe, I met this guy. A photographer. Things happened, and
[ruefully]
Charlotte Clarke : he took some artistic shots of me.
Aiden Mathis : Nude.
Charlotte Clarke : I was in an awful head-space. Some creep stole my phone, found the photos, and now he's blackmailing me.
Aiden Mathis : You do know I don't work for your parents anymore, right?
Charlotte Clarke : Good. This can't get back to them. Or anyone else, for that matter.
Aiden Mathis : Okay. Well, how did he contact you?
Charlotte Clarke : By e-mail. He wants 40 grand. Can you make it go away?
[as he ponders]
Charlotte Clarke : Look, I'm... I'm already late for my brother's shower.
Aiden Mathis : No. Uhm, give me your computer. I'll, uhm, establish contact. I'll take it from there.
Charlotte Clarke : [exhales] How much is it gonna cost me?
Aiden Mathis : No, don't sweat it. First one's free.
[she mouths "thank you" as she leaves]

[laughter]
Charlotte Clarke : But he's still my best friend. So, Emily, be good to him, or you'll have me to deal with.
[raising her glass:]

man : [calling out from crowd] Cheers!
Charlotte Clarke : [stepping down from podium] I see you drank to that. Refills?
Daniel Grayson : I'll get us all one.
Emily Thorne : That was lovely, Charlotte. Thank you.
Charlotte Clarke : [veiled warning] I meant every word.
