A woman was fatally stabbed with a colonial type of sword, apparently a ritual murder. She recently took a great, atypical interest in the occult, but that was just for a fund-raiser scavenger hunt organized by the professor chairman of the historical society. Security cameras recorded her being followed by an ex-con Franciscan to a church where clues abound to both mysteries, even tie in with her family's early history and lore concerning a real treasure. When the camera angle changes the gadget is no longer on the stand but on the desk next to the stand. The next time the gadget comes into frame it is back on the stand.
