- As Ryan and Max follow up a lead to the whereabouts of Lily Gray, Joe is finally back to civilization.
- Lily has escaped with Luke, Mark and Emma and they make their way to a safe house. Ryan is now certain the new cult's aim has been to lure Joe out. The FBI conduct a new background on Lily and learn she may be Luke and Mark's adoptive mother. Gisele stays behind to eliminate David Rowlands who survived the attack at the museum. Ryan and Max are soon onto her and give chase. Joe and Mandy make contact one of his followers, Jana Murphy, who has money and other things waiting for him. Joe contacts Emma who tells him it's safe for him to join them. The FBI has a security leak.—garykmcd
- Joe and Mandy watch a suburban mom come home from a walk with her young kids.
Inside the house, the mom comes downstairs and her daughter tells her a man took her brother. The mom frantically looks through the house then sees a man holding her son outside. She takes a knife and goes outside to confront the man.
It's Joe.
She drops the knife and runs, smiling, to hug him. "Where have you been?" Jana asks.
At home with Max, Ryan watches the news about Lily Gray and realizes she was playing a part to get close to him.
Ryan thinks she was trying to lure Joe out. Max is skeptical but offers to help. She thinks she can stay a step ahead of the FBI tracking Ryan, but advises him to get a disposable cell phone.
Until last year, she and Ryan hadn't spoken since her dad died, but now they and Aunt Ginny are all that's left of the Hardy clan.
"If something happened to you, that would end me," Ryan tells her.
"Now you know how I feel," she says.
At FBI HQ, they dig into Lily Gray. She's worth $1.4 billion, money left to her by Martin Jansen, her benefactor after she was orphaned. The estate's housekeeper Hilda died giving birth to twin boys, but there's no record Lily adopted them.
Lily's business partner David, who has been released from the hospital, isn't talking.
Lily and Luke drive to a fancy country estate, where they plan to wait until Joe calls. When they arrive, Mark runs out to greet his mother and there's some twin blame over who was supposed to kill David. She told Luke to do it, but now Gisele is staying back in the city to get it done. Even though he doesn't know anything, Lily would prefer he not talk to the FBI.
Inside, Lily says hi to twin French-speaking black young men, whom she greets as sons, and a Russian speaking girl. Then she sees Emma hanging back and explains this is her family and she's welcome here.
Back at Jana's house, Mandy plays with Jana's young daughter.
Jana expected Joe to come to her after Havenport and she wonders what happened. But she knows why he's there now.
Gisele sneaks into an apartment building and picks an apartment door lock. David, the business partner, recuperates from his wounds inside, watching the news about Lily.
Gisele downloads David's computer as he rests in the bedroom.
Ryan watches Martinez talk to David's lawyer at David's apartment -- a different one than where he currently is. Ryan waves to the two FBI agents following him as he talks to Max on the phone. He thinks the attorney is stonewalling and David isn't inside. Max looks up David's attorney's credit card to see if he rented a room anywhere.
Ryan walks away.
David walks out to see Gisele in the living room. He's concerned and wants to talk to Lily. Gisele asks him to take sleeping pills because Lily didn't want him to suffer. When he won't, she takes out a garrote, excited to get to do it her way.
Ryan manages to lose his FBI tail and checks in with Max. She gives him an address David's lawyer rented.
Mike drops by Max's office and immediately starts in telling her to butt out of the investigation. He tries to insist he's just trying to help, but she kicks him out when he references that death runs in the Hardy family.
At the country estate, Lily tries to assure Emma that she's her friend and she's safe there.
Joe goes about getting a new fake ID (in the name Thomas Zabel) and asks for Jana's help locating his son Joey in witness protection. He also wants to know if it's safe to respond to whoever reached out to him after the New York murders.
Lily explains to Emma that she's taken in children from difficult backgrounds, like her own. Her father killed her mother then himself when he believed she'd had an affair with her employer, Martin Jansen. Martin took Lily in and sent her to the finest schools, but was never a parent.
She tries to talk to Emma about her own mother and suggests Emma deserved better.
She saw early on that Luke and Mark were different and tried to "surround them with a family of like-minded souls."
She feels connected to Joe and Emma because that's what Joe tried to do, too.
Ryan goes to the apartment and brushes by Gisele on his way out of the elevator. He finds David dead in the apartment and runs back down to the street after her. Gisele tears out of the parking garage in a Volvo and Ryan races after snapping photos with his cell phone.
At the Gray estate, a cell phone rings. Mark grabs it and races with it to Emma. It's Joe.
She's overjoyed to hear from him and Lily, Mark and Luke wait eagerly as Joe asks her if they're friends. She says it's safe.
At the apartment, Ryan calls Max to run a trace with traffic cams on the Volvo. Martinez and agents are on the scene and Ryan continues to play dumb. She has Ryan arrested.
At the estate, Luke and Mark watch their mom get dressed and discuss who will go with Emma to meet Joe. Mark suggests he's better with Emma.
Luke zips his mother up in an evening gown and touches her arms in a way a son probably shouldn't. He apologizes for cutting her arm so deeply in the subway, but she says the scar is sexy.
Joe asks Jana about the original Havenport plan.
Joe checks in with Mandy, who's been quiet. She says she's not thinking about her mother and asks if Joe is going to kill Jana now that he has what he needed. Joe tries to explain why Mandy's mom Judy had to die, but Jana is a friend.
Jana comes back with Roderick's files and says good-bye.
Max calls Ryan but can't reach him. She's at the location where she followed Gisele's car on traffic cameras, near Grand Central Station. She sees Gisele sitting at an outdoor café and sits down nearby.
In FBI HQ, Ryan misses the call from Max. Martinez doesn't know what to do with Ryan and warns him that the new cult isn't done with him and will kill him.
"Probably," Ryan says, sanguine.
Martinez leaves. Mike explains that Director Franklin thought he was more valuable if they let him go and follow him. Mike tries again to convince Ryan to talk to him.
Ryan is using a new phone that they don't have bugged.
After Ryan says good-bye to Mike, Max finally reaches him and updates him. He races off.
Emma and Mark wait anxiously for Joe in a graveyard at night. He's late, but he and Mandy finally arrive. Emma breaks down crying and throws herself at him, then starts beating on him and asking "how could you?"
He just holds onto her and tells her "I'm back."
As Ryan races toward the café, he talks to Max, who wants to arrest Gisele. He begs her not to and not to follow her. Max tries to stay put, but gets up and goes after her when she seems to be getting away.
Max thinks she's lost Gisele in the crowd heading toward Grand Central Station, but Gisele comes up behind her and decks her. They fight and Max gets the upperhand and takes out her cuffs. But before she can lock her up, Gisele kicks her off and whacks her again then runs off.
When Ryan arrives, Max assures him she's fine and he races after Gisele into the train station. They momentarily lose sight of her then see her going down stairs to the tracks. They split up to check the tracks leaving the city.
Gisele checks her watch and anxiously waits for her train. She hides as Ryan makes his way down the platform.
From across the platform, Max sees her and points for Ryan. The train arrives.
Gisele jumps out on Ryan and tries to snap his neck, but he fights her off. He decks her in the nose and pulls his gun as onlookers gather. She screams that he has a gun and people pull him off as Gisele steps on to the train. Ryan can only watch as it pulls away.
Back at the FBI, Martinez calls her ex to see if she can pick up the kids: It's Jana. We learn that Jana was also in the FBI, but quit to raise the children.
Joe arrives at the Gray estate to see Lily dressed to the nines. "Oh my," he says.
Emma seethes with jealousy.
Max calls Ryan: she's on the train with Gisele.
