As expected early on, Marie Laveau ends up on the losing side of the war.

Trigger Warning(s): Mutilation of human bodies, suffocation, bee attack, and scenes of gun violence.

A couple of episodes ago I mentioned that there was hardly any chance Marie was going to win the war. For one, Ryan Murphy made this series and Black people rarely win when he is involved, and then comes the issue that Marie Laveau was the sole with of her group, outside Queenie who ended up her receptionist. So, it should come of no surprise that her fall was swift. After all, despite being a more central character than Kathy Bates' Delphine LaLaurie, for whatever reason, Angela Bassett has been listed as a special guest star.

Let's begin though with Fiona offering Marie an alliance, which of course is promptly laughed off since Marie thinks she has Hank in her corner, but upon us getting Hank's back-story, and Marie performing voodoo on him, things change. You see, Hank comes from a long line of witch hunters, his daddy even owns a company called Delphi Trust which seems to manage assassins, of which seemingly Hank is relegated to just being a inside man. However, be it to prove himself or to exact revenge for Marie performing voodoo on him, he massacres her shop. Everyone but Delphine and Marie end up dead, and the only reason Marie lived was because Queenie sacrificed herself, meaning no more Sidibe.

But she isn't the only one to die this episode. Myrtle also gets herself some revenge against people who wronged her. However, the way Myrtle sets the whole situation up is that she is trying to give her poor little bird, Cordelia, her sight back. So, she invites the counsel over, poisons them, and snatches an eye out from each before cutting their bodies up and giving to them Cordelia, making her regain sight, but lose her clairvoyancy. This leads to the question: Does Myrtle still have her powers? I ask this because, unless being dead to long gets rid of them, it makes me wonder if Madison may have some semblance of her powers? I mean, she seemingly was to be the next supreme before Fiona killed her after all.

And speaking of the next supreme, there is a need to talk about the two current candidates Nan and Misty Day, and what they have going on this episode. Starting off with Misty Day, for the first time in ages, we see Cordelia actually teaching someone about magic and you can see a bond form between them. But, something also noteworthy is Cordelia's about face when it comes to her mom, for while they all await the next supreme, Cordelia is quick to check anyone who forgets her mom is the supreme, and seemingly the idea of death coming has made it so she is her mother's knight, which is rather strange.

Perhaps though the stranger bit of the episode is when Nan deals with Luke's mother Joan. Luke is currently in a coma and Joan by his side and, naturally, she isn't fond when the witches show up. However, Nan's clairvoyancy leads her to changing her mind, at least about her, and letting her stay. But, then some of Joan's secrets leak out, like how she killed Luke's dad, so she is sent away and when Luke wakes up and confronts her, she smothers him with a pillow.

Leading to the final thing worth noting: With Marie Laveau on her own and her home torn up, she ends up at the coven now willing for an alliance. This makes it so, overall, the episode strips Marie almost bear and proves that having a bunch of bodies without magic was a dumb move. But, with her sticking around the coven, perhaps she will get more screen time and hopefully not end up Fiona's sidekick. Only time will tell though.
