This talk show is an embarrassment to Canadian television
Top_Dawg_Critic13 July 2017
This talk show is an embarrassment to Canadian television. They used to focus on real interesting events, and then it toppled down to their own personal agendas and fun times - who cares?!

Even when the topics are bearable, their ecstatic overblown personalities are just way too much. Ladies, tone it down a notch, or two or... Stop yelling, lay off the caffeine, we can hear you! The only one I can take serious and don't cringe listening to is the latest addition to the panel - Marci. Had all these ladies gave off that persona of professionalism/fun, I could take this show seriously. But that annoyance of on screen presence that hurt my ears every time she opens her mouth - Jess Allen... please PLEASE mute her out or get her to get off that coffee/(?) high, she is way too much and unbearable with that irritating high pitched squeal of a voice. Uggghhh.

2/10 (+3 added for Marci, -6 deducted for Jess = 2/10)

The Social - pure bully gunk junk!
anneevanoff5 November 2021
I actually gave it no stars - it is the worst hideous unprofessional junk show on tv. It is synonymous with the view but worse. These people should all be fired. Bullies know it alls who know nothing. Disgusting hosts who are rude and biased. Waste of taxpayer money.

Why is this show still on?
kpk-3123919 May 2022
I have to mute the end of this show before I watch the next show that I really want to see. I do this especially when Jess is yapping because her voice is like a certain Disney character that is in love with the other mouse. She is the worst and looks like the proverbial round peg in a square hole. Her clothes are terrible and she has no fashion sense whatsoever . The others aren't much better. Their topics are awful and of no importance to most people and their opinions remind me of high school mentality 50 years ago to me. Even at their ages and younger, I was more intelligent and well spoken than they are now. It's just a terrible show all round.

If You Ever Want to Lose Brain Cells...
niallisdigital15 March 2018
If you ever had to worry about whether television is pandering to the lowest of the low, then it goes lower, then this is the show for you.

From the "AH, A, HO HA DEE DAH" brash disco rave theme music, to the SCREAMING over hyped audience who, as I can attest to first hand, are told to SHRIEK louder than the caps lock on my keyboard at everything that these hosts say, their formula is so preposterously annoying and grating that it makes you suicidal even watching a minute of these vacuous ninny hammered, zero grade twits read their Facebook posts out loud.

It would be almost understandable if the hosts were in their teens and they were doing an amateur high school interpretation of The View, but these are women in their 40's. They have stretched this nonsense out over 1000 episodes, presumably because ti allows for an hour long infomercial of already paid hosts who are under contract. Win Win for the network.

I am certain that there is some form of extreme torture beyond water-boarding and I think I have found it. Put this on DVR on continuous loop and watch even the strongest, most mentally resilient person on the planet crack within minutes.

I promise, as god is my witness that I will celebrate beyond everything that is possible when finally, they cancel this intellectually withering insufferable garbage fire of a show.

Please, for the love of god, make it stop.

Irresponsible and Pathetic
cklancaster4 September 2018
I was at the hairdressers a few weeks back and she had this nonsense on the tv. They were talking about racism in Canada. With no facts or anything to substantiate the claim, they launched into a rant about how they think most racism occurs in rural Canada. How ironic that racism exists because of misconceptions and a belief that one is better than other people for various reasons. That's exactly what they did on their tv show, claim superiority over rural Canada with no facts. Dangerous, irresponsible and incredibly disrespectful.

Waterboarding would be more enjoyable
meckanic29 January 2015
Obviously, this is just my opinion, that and a $1.50 will buy you a coffee, maybe. I wish I could give negative numbers for the review as a (1) is even far to high, by orders of magnitude.

Today, I was subjected to the most horrid noise... the cackling of the four "witches" on The Social. I'll tell you, it was obscene. IMHO, four vacuous imbeciles pretending they actually know something, which is so far from the truth that it is simply ridiculous.

I find "The Social" to be basically social media programming for the masses, meaning the transfer of ideas by the media, government or special interest groups to the general population (a term used in prisons). What really appalled me however was the "pushing" of the sex education for pre-teens agenda by this bunch of tools.

A pre-teen sex education program (as early as Grade 1) allegedly developed or directed by a pedophile (Benjamin Levin) and a lesbian (Katheryn Wynn), but it's about education and not about "grooming" kids for present or future "use," so we are meant to believe. Since 95% plus of the population are heterosexual, why do we have a situation where the tail is wagging the dog? Where the 5% control the outcomes and curriculum of the 95%? Or better still, where the criminals (Levin) have some control over the curriculum?

I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night. Then you have "OISE- the place where many of our teachers are trained- has invited James Kincaid, author of "Child Loving" to speak at an upcoming conference Sat Oct. 19 at 9 am. Mr. Kincaid's objective is to "demystify pedophilia", and he claims that our society has falsely demonized child-molesters." Come on, seriously. How can anyone take the witches at "The Social" seriously if they can't even do basic research?

In my opinion, the people who run the social and present it, are idiots. It's one of those shows that doesn't make you think because they are too busy trying to drive their agenda home. The Social is Vacutainment or a show for the unthinking masses.

A no-star would be a better rating
honeyster8 January 2018
Honestly, I do not see the point of this show at all. It's just a bunch of wannabe divas all glammed up and never wearing the same outfit twice.. for what? Just to get paid to voice their opinion? Oh, and if your opinion doesn't match theirs, then there is something wrong or ignorant with YOU! They are a very haughty bunch. Jess has the most unladylike chortle and snorts. Lainey is constantly immature and grumpy. I cannot believe she mocks her mother like she does on national television! Cynthia, I honestly thought was a lesbian because that's how she comes off as. I was shocked to find out she's actually a hetero with a kid! Melissa... well, she's Melissa. It's all about her, right? Check her twitter or instagram for free boob shots she takes of herself! Yeah, real mature! Marci, the newer one has been the more sane one, so far. I won't know much more here on out because I honestly think this show is not worth an hour of my time in my day.

My review of the Social Show
lhornsby-867462 March 2017
So disappointed in this show, it was entertaining at first till these gals got into politics. What these gals know of politics can be written on the head of a pin ! They have fallen into what the View in the U.S. is & that's extremely biased view of today's political world both in Canada & the U.S. The View is failing drastically & now the Social as well, this could be a good show if they'd stay off politics, NOT everyone wants to hear their biased view, sick, sick of it, you're losing people watching the show every day !! And yes I do know where the off switch is !

I Love this Show!
Malacadel-7503630 June 2020
The Social has always been a smart, funny, lively talk show (despite what the troll reviews on this site would like you to believe) and the 4 main hosts are from different ethnicities and walks of life, making the insights more varied and the discussion far more relevant.

Even before the lockdown, this show would tackle controversial and divisive topics, like racism in Canada, especially First Nations, who are usually ignored. But since the lockdown, and the cascade of serious events around the world that followed, the show has been an even more welcome and even necessary bright event in my day. Even the serious topics shine a light.

Marci, Mel, Cynthia and Lainey, (and sometimes Jess) don't let the trolls grind you down. Keep talking, teaching, learning, forgiving, and especially laughing and sharing the whole damn discussion with us fans.

And Marci, Lainey - your unshakeable friendship and Marci's generous attitude towards Lainey's historic social media transgressions will go a lot farther to heal Canada than any cancelling, de-friending or public denouncement ever would.

I'm glad all of you good people are on the air in these dark days, keep on shining on.

Another CTV trash show of with untalented host
cdeanroane23 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
If you are unfortunate enough to catch this Canadian show you will see why there are so few Canadian talk/entertainment shows and why they are not broadcast outside of Canada! It is a group giggly gabby girl/women who think they are talented and icons of the TV and entertainment industry but you will have never heard of them. Who beg for watchers to contact them while on air through social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and others. This a show shot that CTV and it owner Bell Canada should dump as it is waste of time to watch or be produced.

Great Canadian Topical Fun/Informative
newcybersol-514383 June 2020
I love this show. I have watched it since it started and continue to watch it daily. I love the true respect and caring they have for each other. You can't fake true friendship. Their topics range from the most serious issues of the day to the most fun never thought I would think about that ever type of topic. I respect every one of these smart Canadian women. Watch....you won't be sorry you did.

Melissa's stylist
janmorris-6315517 June 2022
I like the show but I cannot bear to watch poor Melissa. She does a fantastic job and she's a beautiful woman, but please!!! She should fire her stylist, no more of the greased back hair...and the makeup is way over the top, it's hard to imagine her pretty face underneath. She would be lovely without all those weird hair styles and the caked on makeup. Sorry, not a criticism of Melissa, just her lousy stylist.

Possible the worst talkshow on television
mountainriver-1576530 December 2020
I tell the kids to run when the show comes on or it will shrink their brain. A bunch of whining air heads. I could imagine going to hell and having to watch this over and over again. Canadian television at its worst.

I do not understand why people watch this show. It is honestly one of the worst television shows I have seen aside from Lilly Singh's late night show. Painful to watch and just overall terrible.

Hypocritical to say the least. Very disapointed after watching this. You should all be ashamed of yourselves for supporting this nonsense and not doing what's right.

Desperate for Ratings
phurcum16 November 2019
This show has been on for several years and stuck in a hotel room waiting for a call out i watched it a couple of days in a row.

It's really sad to watch grown women, some of them mothers no doubt acting in such a precocious manner. Modelling their behaviour no doubt after their daughters.

I thought nothing more about the show except that I would never watch it again. Low and behold they managed to make the news with a very dumb, truly racist comment followed by a vapid, very sad non apology.

They must be desperate for ratings.

Bet there is an end date added to this page within a couple of months.

Sinking ship.....

Sonia Beeksma
shawncartertok25 July 2019
Firstly, get a host that does their research before they speak.

Secondly, Sonia Beeksma was not stating an opinion about Beyoncé. An opinion is when you make a general statement about how you feel about someone, NOT making up false accusation and assumption of a person. This is a whole new level of low. The whole panel of other female judges are supporting her mistake blindly. We did not expect everyone to like Beyoncé, but it is something else to discredit a person they've never met or spoke to.

This show needs to reconsider their whole structure because this AINT IT.

Watching the show today
brownallan-6722830 December 2019
There were comments directed towards University vs College students. This was soooo wrong. Your audience probably has college students that are watching, making them feel their schooling is inadequate or employers watching hiring university students over college students. if you were going to college watching this show and listening to your co-host comments, how would you feel???? Great boost for confidence.

Ignore The Other Reviews!
deannechapman2 December 2020
I have watched since the first show and there is never a dull moment. Informative and well researched. Funny and very relevant to the times we live in. The Hosts are beautiful feminist authentic Canadian women. I love the guests and how well they ask them interesting and unexpected questions. I have learned much about the Transgender and LGBTQ2s communities. They also have a lot of indigenous people which is very informative in this time of reconciliation. They also have fun and review the latest beauty products. Ignore the other reviews they are filled with ignorant people who don't watch the show ! They would love to see women back in the dark ages with no opinions.

Don't waste your time on this crap. Should be deprecated out of existence. Jess Allen has a self entitled relevance. Nobody actually cares about what you have to say, Jess. Head back to the trailer park.

I support Canadian
drobirtis16 October 2021
What's with all the negative comments?

No matter what you think of them, these ladies work really hard to show up and highlight current events, trends, serious and light topics. I don't think they profess to know everything and we won't always agree with them..so what!!! They give us a space to discuss and think about what's going on in the world from different points of view long after the show ends. That's much more honest and healthy that walking around aligning only with those who think exactly like us. Watch when you are feeling it and simply don't when you're not.
