Storyline

Sally Tishell returns to Port Wenn, apparently cured of her obsession with Martin; though, she is hostile to Jennifer, whom she sees as a professional rival, and put out that Martin refuses to declare her fit enough to work on her own. Joe Penhale takes part in a survival course in the wilds where he ends up literally shooting himself in the foot; whilst, Morwenna and Al find that they have unwittingly corresponded with each other on a dating website, causing Al to move out and lodge with Joe. Martin attends to beach-comber Lorna, whose mystery illness turns out to be too much iron in the blood. Written by don @ minifie-1

Quotes

Lorna Gillott: Well, I've sort of had aches and pains in my joints, but I always have those. And I'm always tired, even when I get my eight hours sleep. I just figured it was an age thing, you know?
Dr. Martin Ellingham: Why didn't you mention this the last time you were here?
Lorna Gillott: I don't know. Summer's my busy season! At least it's meant to be. I got bills to pay and debts to cover, and, and no one likes bad news, Doc.
Dr. Martin Ellingham: Fear of a diagnosis never changed an underlying problem.

Will someone just euthanize Penhale and end our misery?!
8 May 2015 | by (Bradenton, Florida) – See all my reviews

This is a very, very weak episode. Much of it is because so much of it depends on Police Constable Penhale--the world's most pathetic and incompetent policeman. This is because his character is by far the least realistic in the show and his stupidity can get a bit annoying--and he's best in small doses. Here, he's given a much larger plot than usual--and proves to be MUCH stupider than usual. It seems that the policeman has inexplicably decided to go on some personal survival training (??). During the course of his living off the land, the idiot ends up shooting himself. And, like a total idiot, he tries to treat himself! A little of this goes a long way- -too bad so much of the show is based around this.

The other plots involve Mrs. Tishell returning from the psychiatric treatment center to resume her life. There's also an odd redhead who has come to Martin because of a cut in her foot. Additionally, Al is lonely and decides to try his hand at computer dating. These three plots are much more interesting--mostly because they seem much more real and don't rely heavily on stupidity. Overall, a rather bad episode--something I never thought I'd see from "Doc Martin".
