Killian is a young man who has never left the remote mountains of Huesca (Spain) which saw him grow up. In 1953, he travels back to the exotic Equatorial African island of Fernando Poo, in Spanish Guinee, where he was born, to work in a cacao plantation alongside his father and his brother. During 20 years in this island, until the troubled days of independence, he will undertake a journey towards maturity and knowledge, but will also have to deal with pain and loss.
Based on the novel of the same title by the author Luz Gabás, this film by Fernando Gonzalez Molina ("Tres Metros Sobre El Cielo", "Tengo Ganas De Ti", also with Mario Casas as the male lead) is an unforgettable film gem with own heartbeat, feelings found and focusing on an argument that, although it has been widely used in film, gives a realistic and romantic approach "Kilian" (Mario Casas) leaves home with his brother to embark towards Equatorial Guinea, a former Spanish colony where it is grown one of the best cocoas in the world, and where they expected her father, Ante Kilian opens suddenly, a world new and very different known so far.
The past intertwines with the present, where Adriana Ugarte, niece of a Kilian old man, decides to embark on the most important journey of his life and return to the Spanish colony forty years later, with the urgent need for stories wonderful people are never forgotten.
The female role of Berta Vázquez, "Bisila" ( "Rizos" in the television series "Vis a Vis"), is a show of interpretation, with extraordinary beauty, it lends credibility, tenderness and strength to a strong woman who does not want resign themselves to the world in which he lives.
It is a splendid work, with stunning cinema tics, a script riddled with literature and care to the millimeter. The nearly three hours of projection are more than entertaining, with a leisurely pace so that the viewer leaves with bright eyes and a broken heart.
"Palmeras En La Nieve" is a tribute to the cinema, its ability to tell stories, a tribute to love, life, suffering from it. It is the recovery of these events belong to the past, and sometimes our culture are blinded forget. It is a song to historical memory.
