On the anniversary of his father's, Robert Porter, passing, Kevin Porter pays his respects at his father's grave and then picks up his fiancée, Calypso Roman, on the way to dinner at his mother's, Rose Porter's, house. Once there, Kevin is greeted by his half-brother, Dion Miller, who extends his hand in greeting. Kevin ignores him and argues with Rose. Dion leaves and later that night, commits suicide. Rose visits Dion and discovers what has happened. She is unable to get through to Kevin on his phone. Calypso shows up at Kevin's apartment and breaks the news to him. Kevin is shocked. He flashes back to childhood memories of an eventful day spent with Dion and Robert. Kevin goes to Rose, and attempts to comfort her. She rejects him and accuses him of causing Dion's suicide.
