Has Its Moments, but Certainly a Weaker Episode of the 25th Season,
lesleyharris303 June 2014
Diggs is a good Simpsons episode with a good storyline and several funny scenes. The episode isn't terrible, but it's certainly the weakest episode of the twenty fifth season so far, there are a few funny scenes, but the character Diggs was pretty irritating and not funny and you certainly didn't feel bad for Bart when he was separated from his psychopathic new friend.Although I didn't particularly like the character,Daniel Radcliffe certainly did a great job voicing him,I didn't even know it was him because the voice was so different, which I really appreciated because usually when an animated series gets a big guest star, they will make the voice really clear as to who it is.Diggs is certainly not a memorable Simpsons episode, but it's fun while it lasts.

Bart makes an eccentric new friend called Diggs, however Homer and Marge discover Bart's new friend may have some serious mental issues.

Diggs

Warning: Spoilers
Was it an intentional mistake that Diggs ' arm cast listed "Phineas Fogg" instead of Phileas Fogg? Maybe Koreans cant spell in English? I cant spell anything In Korean.....I thought it was going to be a Separate Piece parody, but it didn't really go there beyond one scene...as episodes go this season, it was above average....the 8pm episode was much better. The emphasis on guest stars works best when the Writing is there for the character, rather than focus on who the celebrity is and Making the joke from it ( lady gaga, katy perry, bette midler). it's still a mile ahead Of the rest of the Sunday animation lineup. However, the sardonic subtext to many of these episodes does tend to be a little repetitive. Maybe they should consider aging the characters a little and have a fresh approach to them.

Very good jokes
santifersan3 March 2023
In the episode "Diggs," the writers surprise us with a barrage of consistently funny jokes that keep coming one after another, like Cletus' final line that lands perfectly. However, the episode also has a more serious tone which may cause some viewers to find it dull. The key to enjoying this episode is to focus on the humor, which is abundant throughout. The jokes are clever and well-timed, showcasing the show's signature wit. There are plenty of moments that will have you laughing out loud, from Santa's little Helper eating a leftover from Homer's plate to the final conversation between Diggs and Bart. The episode also features some interesting character development for Bart, as he struggles with feelings of inadequacy and learns a valuable lesson. Overall, "Diggs" is a solid episode that showcases the show's humor at its best. Just don't take it too seriously and enjoy the ride.

Lots of very good stuff around the edges and a good central story in this one

Warning: Spoilers
There will be spoilers in the review ahead:

This episode features a couch gag done by Sylvain Chomet, director of The Triplets of Bellville among other films. If you've seen anything by Chomet, you'll recognize the animation style. It's a good set of gags very much in Chomet's humor. What happens with Maggie must be seen cold!

The basic plot line is about a kid named Diggs (voiced by Daniel Radcliffe) who quotes poetry and has his own trained falcon. He and Bart become friends and Bart starts in on falconry. It becomes clear that Diggs has problems when he tries to fly out of a tree as if he were a falcon. This causes Bart to come to terms with the idea of mental illness, though the subject is dealt with in typical Simpsons fashion.

As the plot progresses, be sure to pay attention to little set pieces happening in the background and around the edges. Nice little one-offs are scattered here and there and they're mostly hilarious. The bit with the cast on Diggs's arm and the "signatures" is great and Willie pops up once or twice to good effect.

All in all, it's a very good episode from this season. Recommended.

After years of low quality could our friends be back?

Warning: Spoilers
The answer to this question is no. The Simpsons jumped the shark years ago. That being said out of the fifteen or so seasons that have come since it's downfall one can definitely make a solid season out of the best episodes from this lot. Now this brings me to the current episode, one which I would put on that list of best episodes after the show's downfall. It deals with Bart and his falcon loving friend Diggs voiced by the wonderful Daniel Radcliffe. Bart takes a liking to Digs and the two become fast friends. However Diggs wants to be a falcon and attempts to fly. Doctors consider him mentally ill and take him away from Bart to an institution. He is able to get a one day pass which he uses to spend time with Bart and falcons. At the end Bart has to say goodbye to his friend who he will not see again for sometime. I thought this episode was brilliant because it was a very serious episode. It has excellent themes of friendship and obsession. It is a very beautiful episode to look at. And the best cultural references are to star trek( Comic Book Guy's shirt) and to the now dead language of Esperanto(the conversation between Seymour and Willie). This episode will go down as the highlight of the twenty fifth season due to its excellent story and subtle themes. My favorite scene is when Diggs is quoting poetry.
