So, after the promise of the previous episode it's down to earth with a bump, with far too much focus on the unlikely couple of John and Cara, who here profess their love to each other without once sounding like they mean it.(In Cara's case, that's probably intended though.)By the end, it's hard to shake the feeling they're only together because they're both complete sociopaths and the love triangle reaches a new low with John's colossal jerkdom towards Stephen at the basketball game and the two of them pointlessly trading punches.Oh, but John saves Stephen's life at the end, so that's all right.If this storyline isn't going to get any sort of logical resolution, then hopefully we've seen the back of it for a while.
Stephen having fun with his powers should be fun for the audience but sadly fun must always be punished and Stephen gets three different levels of punishment here.There's nice use of peripheral characters Russell, Irene and Astrid, although the revelation of the latter's true feelings is another moment to cringe.
The self-contained plot, with the Tomorrow People and Ultra in agreement for once, is actually okay with a decent creepy villain.At least one of his victims only gets attacked because she stands around in an empty street for about half a minute instead of just getting in the car and driving off though.And Cara's disbelief at a TP being a rapist sounds like she's forgotten which version of the mythos she's in: She only has to look around the room or in the mirror to see the depths these TP3s can plummet to.The "No kill" thing gets stretched to breaking point:Dumping an unconscious body face down in water and leaving them to drown doesn't count as killing because the water did it? What's next, stabbing someone doesn't count because the knife did it?And why does Stephen take seeing his father in a near death experience as evidence he's alive?Doesn't that mean he's dead?
