An incredible and thrilling story

Brian James Crewe's short "Une Libération" is a suspenseful and amazing film that takes place on the previous day of Allied forces liberation of France during World War II. An incredible tale of hope, a thrill to many senses and a dream to be imagined as a future film. Crewe has a great sense of direction by using few elements to compose the film in alliance with lead actress Marion Kerr's interesting screenplay.

Kerr plays a woman fighting for the American resistance who exchange secret messages to a man from the French resistance (Ross Marquand). Their meetings are always on the same location on the many underground tunnels of France we all get to see in several movies. I'll try to not reveal much but from what it's established they also only know each other for years during several risky missions at night, all in secrecy hiding themselves from the Nazi, and the turning point comes when the man reveals the American forces are coming and other truths are exposed between the two.

It's more than just a nation's liberation, it's also about the duo's liberation and the lives they can lead after the war, providing the man's information is a fact and if they don't face more dangers until then. It's obvious that for a war story more and more events will unfold, fear and death are always on the corner but the director and the screenplay always find a way for that brief encounter becomes something filled with surprises, heart-pounding moments and believable moments. It's always 'hoping for the best but expecting the worst' kind of scenario the couple face during the film and it's incredible. The actors also make a great job with meaningful characters compositions, a little cliched but convincing anyway. Now, can we a get a feature film out of this? It is remarkable, creative, well-produced and never disappointing. Deserved all the awards it got. 9/10
