About what you'd expect from a "Doc Martin" wedding!
planktonrules8 May 2015
The town of Portwenn is a hellacious place! Any weird and nearly impossible thing that COULD happen, DOES appear to happen in this strange town. So, the fact that the wedding between Martin and Louisa seems to go off without a major hitch only means something AWFUL is coming very, very soon! So, when Bert Large whisks the loving couple off to their honeymoon villa, you KNOW it will go horribly...and it does. By the time it's over, both Martin and especially Louisa are covered in blood!! What happened in this funny episode? Give it a look and find out yourself.

This is a very typical sort of episode--and that is meant as a good thing, as "Doc Martin" is a clever and always well written show. Well worth seeing.

One of the best of the series

Warning: Spoilers
In 1970 Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis did a film called The Out of Towners about a hapless couple who come to New York only to have everything go wrong. It was considered a major hit at the time and -- a sure sign of film stature -- was redone recently with a new cast. Here's the thing. This episode of Doc Martin, which handles a similar setup (Martin and Louisa are given a honeymoon at a remote location, a fire starts, and they set off cross country in the middle of the night looking for a way to get home, still dressed in their wedding attire) is funnier. At one point they meet an eccentric hermit with a shotgun and antics ensue, with equal time given to Martin's clumsiness, Louisa's darkening mood about the devolution of her wedding day, and the hermit who not only loses the gun but has his life put in jeopardy several times, unintentionally, by Martin. Better still, the episode shifts back and forth between the Martin-Louisa arc and the "folks back home" in Port Wen looking after the baby while the honeymoon couple is away. It is not only funny and touching but offers a wonderful reunion from the characters from the earlier parts of the series.

All that blood!
dianem-388483 January 2022
Martin attends to a hermit in the woods that had an accident. His carotid artery was severed and there was lots of blood. This didn't seem to bother Martin at all. He had no reaction to all the blood. This wasn't like him.

It was a very funny episode, but Joe and Bert were over the top annoying.

It Just Had to Be This Way

It's Doc and Louisa's wedding day. The happy couple finally gets through the ceremony, even though Martin can't follow the rituals. He is annoyed that there are all kinds of uninvited people at the wedding. Burt and the gang give a wedding present. A trip to a lodge in the far countryside. The problem is that the big lug doesn't leave their luggage with them. They set a fire in the fireplace and forget to open the flue. In their efforts to call someone for help, they get lost in the woods. They eventually finds a recluse in the dark who pulls a gun on them. This is every bit the disaster one could imagine in this series. There are also some things going on back home in Port Wenn, but this is nothing like the main story.

Sweet but also dumb

Another reviewer wrote episodes ago that you have to abandon reality when watching Doc Martin. You need to do that again for this marriage eipisdoe. A few glitches during the wedding ceremony are fine but the rest of ths fiasco with Doc and Louisa wandering through the woods was just dumb. The writers seemed to forget that Martin had a sprained and immovvable wrist when they had him pop back a dislocated shoulder and perform emergency surgery on a hermit. Ridiculous but as always all worked out well in the end.
