Did You Know?
This telecast drew a 15.0 rating (15 percent of all Nielsen households and a 22 percent share of all households watching in that time period. Both figures were unacceptably low viewership, and Broadcasting magazine (March 3, 1975) cited this figure as a reason that The Smothers Brothers Show was likely to be canceled at the end of the season. (Also cited as a likely cancellation was Gunsmoke, which ran in the same time slot on a different network; that show had a much higher rating and audience share but was not drawing well in the younger, urban audience demographic coveted by the networks. Both shows were left off the 1975-1976 schedule.) See more
