The "5-4-3-2-1 - Thunderbirds are GO!" countdown voiceover is audio from the late Peter Dyneley, the voice of Jeff Tracy in the original Thunderbirds puppet series.
Jeff Tracy does not appear in the series. Tin-Tin is now named Kayo. Brains has a much less pronounced stutter than in the original series. The Thunderbirds uniforms no longer include hats.

In the first episode the name of one of the crew members aboard the the stricken research vessel is Doctor Meddings. This is a homage to the original designer of the Thunderbirds crafts - Derek Meddings.

Kayo is actually Tin Tin. The creators had to rename her Kayo as the name Tin Tin is copyright protected by The Adventures of Tin-Tin.

Unlike the original 1965 series, International Rescue do not use guns in this remake as they're meant to save lives and not take them.

In the episode "Fireflash". The storyline was inspired and adapted from the very first original Thunderbirds episode, "Trapped in the Sky". Also with the same climax instrumental score!

In Episode 8 of Series 1 - Eos - there is a reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey. It is a failure of the AE35 unit which is part of the communication system of both the spaceship Discovery in the movie and Thunderbird 5 in the show.

There are plenty of glimpses where Alan Tracy appears to have a crush on Kayo, while in the original 1960s series he has a crush on Tin-Tin (whom Kayo is based on).

During the credits at the end of each episode, one of the pictures shows an artists sketch of the Tracy Island lounge, but with the five portraits from the original 1960s series on the wall instead of the new portraits.

In 'Breakdown' International Rescue pretend to forget Virgil's birthday. Virgil says his birthday is on August 15th. When Virgil asks John what day it is, John says Sunday. According to official calendars, August 15th in 2060 is a Sunday.

At the end of the episode 'Breakdown' Doctor Peck's daughter asks him to read her 'Torchy' which is a reference to Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's earlier puppet series 'Torchy The Battery Boy'

First episode had many references from past Gerry Anderson TV series. Stingray was shown, Sealab I had the front design of the Eagle space transporter from Space 1999 and the ship at the end was called the Shadow which was the name for the secret organization in UFO (SHADO - Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation).
