Storyline

Patrick confides only into Lisbon that the list of suspect stolen from his flat was a deliberate fake, one of which has already been murdered, so the others deserve police protection. A second, Richard Haibach, is too bitter, having been innocently arrested by the CBI earlier, and is kidnapped and tortured by a real suspect, Homeland Security special agent Robert Kirkland, who also approaches minor CBI agent Reede Smith. Patrick sees through Hightower's staged fatal holiday accident and arranges a meeting trough an aunt-accomplice. Learning about Kirkland's high protection, Patrick walks into a trap, but help is on the way- for both parties. Meanwhile Rigsby hopes his failed wedding night wasn't the end of his sexual happiness with Grace. Written by KGF Vissers

please don't let it end this way

In any detective novel, like any good magic trick, the audience willingly follows the miss-direction because they want the reveal at the end of the novel/trick. However, there is a tacit agreement that the writer doesn't change the novel at the end. He doesn't introduce the character of the murderer in the last chapter. This episode changed everything about the on-going duel between Red John and Patrick Jane. First the obvious; Bob Kirkland is murdered on the way to prison? This is not how Red John operates. How is the guard supposed to explain that Bob Kirkland attempted to escape from a locked van while traveling down the road? How is he supposed to explain the fact that he was 'forced to use deadly force' by shooting him 5 times in the back while he was hobbling down the street in handcuffs and shackles? How is he supposed to explain the lack of powder residue on his sleeve from his own gun? That's just lazy writing. And what about Red John? All of a sudden we are dealing not with the brilliant, homicidal maniac that has danced one step in front of Patrick Jane for five years but some great, tentacled cabal of FBI agents and police that greet each other with the pass phrase "Tyger Tyger" (not Tiger Tiger by the way)? Seriously, I know it was supposed to sound menacing but I half expected Reede and the driver to fist bump each other with a Whuzzzzup like a couple of frat boys.

Please, please, let's get back to the origins of the story. Please let the conflict between Jane and Red John not end with a pathetic whimper.
