Very confusing movie!
sblombergb11 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Either I am missing a profound deep meaning or this movie is simply bad. Very confusing scenes and poor acting not only makes this movie hard to follow but difficult to take seriously. The significance of the cubes is not explained, where they came from or what their purpose was. The ending scene does little to explain any of the viewer's many questions throughout the movie, and it all feels kind of rushed. Maybe the director wanted a big symbolic ending, but in this case it just seems unfinished and frankly ridiculous. All in all the storyline leaves much to be desired and the concept does not seem like it is carried to a close. (not to mention the acid induced party with a man dressed up as the grim reaper reciting poetry for no apparent reason whilst everyone else acts psychedelic)

Appreciating that this film was extremely low budget and still managed to have some nice cuts and one believable part of dialogue, the script and acting are mostly way below average. The lead actress who is actually pretty good can impossibly carry the lead actor who manages to make every word he says sound insincere or like the start of a joke. The dialogue is messy and unnatural. Lines are left hanging in the air and life changing lies are confessed to without much (if any) believable reaction by the other party. I would advise against watching this movie unless you have a good sense of humour and can laugh at the accidental absurd hilarity of its poorly written dialogue and bad acting.

Metaphysical, Mystical Look at Love, Memory

The Cube kept me guessing through an intense tale of a relationship in which a man and woman hold long-held truths from each other. Red blocks keep showing up on their doorstep... all that changes when they start moving around, go to the coast, opening new doors and emotional portals.

This is also a story about what you can achieve on a very limited budget with dedicated actors, a well-organized, larger number of scenes and creative camera work.

Great atmospherics and quirky humor from different characters keep things very entertaining. I especially enjoyed and appreciated the message at the end.

My thoughts on The Cube

Ahhh.. the cube. This movie got me really thinking. I really loved the way the director presented the story in the way that he wanted. The lines were very dialogue-like with the woman and the man speaking in turns. The supporting actors made a fantastic role in really supporting the main actors.

The music was there as well, and you could hear it every now and then in different scenes. My favorite part was the climax when the important scene happened, no spoilers! Then there were the closing scenes that really made a great closure to the whole story. Overall, The Cube was a movie.

Good phylosophical themes, great concept

Gratuitous violence, horrible sequels. But the concept itself deserves a good rating.

Very strong opening scene and I think the way it approaches humanity and philosophical themes. okay with it not offering any explanation because cinema is a visual art As long as visuals are okay and there are themes, ideas and direction I'm fine. Jorodowsky's movies lack plot and most of the times don't make any sense and still are considered great movies for the ideas they present.

I just hate the hipsters that keep attacking me on the boards because in addition to the cube I love maze runner. If anything I love it more because it has more explanations and more production value. But the comparisons annoy me. Both are good movies in their own merits and you don't have to hate one to like the other.
