James Badge Dale Set to Star in Big-Screen Adaptation of ‘Empty Man’ Graphic Novel

Today in graphic-novel news, James Badge Dale has been cast in the upcoming adaptation of “The Empty Man.” The Boom! Studios comic is being developed by Fox, who have tapped David Britten Prior to direct; Ross Richie and Stephen Christy of Boom! are producing. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news.

First published in 2014, “The Empty Man” was written by the Eisner Award–winning Cullen Bunn with illustrations by Vanesa R. Del Rey. Plot details are being closely guarded, but the graphic novel is set in the Midwest and concerns a supernatural entity that may or may not be behind a spate of disappearances in a small town.

Cannes: Adrian Grenier, Mimi Rogers Star in ‘Public Affairs’ (Exclusive)

Entourage” star Adrian Grenier and “Hope Springs” actress Mimi Rogers have joined the cast of “Public Affairs,” Variety has learned.

The political thriller centers on a young campaign aide who sleeps with the wife of a presidential candidate — a mistake that threatens his career and endangers his life, and exposes him to blackmail.

The film is directed by Eric Bross, whose credits include “Restaurant” and “On the Line.” Tom Cudworth, who previously partnered with Bross on “Restaurant,” wrote the film.

Produced by School PicturesStephen Israel (“Swimming With Sharks”) and George Voskericyan (“Echoes of War”), the film is set to start principal photography in June. 13 Films is handling international rights to the project and will introduce the film to buyers at Cannes.
