The first time I watched RWBY was back in 2015. I went into the show not knowing much about it other than online discourse that was a bit blown out of proportion. Come to actually watching it I found a charming 3D anime that mimicked the look and feel of video games. As well as the awesome fantastical action of said properties.
But what most surprised me was the protagonist at the center of this story. Someone who stood out in their bright red hood & attire, a cute little girl wielding a giant scythe that was also part gun like a stick.
Ruby Rose.
A character who has enthusiasm so infectious it permeates the screen. Easily defeating basic henchman with a terrifying ease of her weapon. She is brightened up when speaking on why she wants to become "a huntress" - warriors who battle creatures of Grimm. Ruby, while a surprising natural talent, is also honest, kind, and above all wants to be a hero.
In this short manner, we learn all we need to know & are brought into the beginning of Ruby's journey in the wider RWBY story. And of all introductions of protagonists, this one stands apart. While the early animation had some quirks to work on, I cannot give this solid introduction anything less than a 9/10.
