You'd Like to Think Half as Much "Bad Grandpa" Would Be Half as Bad

5 hours ago | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

There’s a reason Paramount has labeled this continuation of Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa as .5 instead of 1.5 (as other special edition releases of films usually do), and that’s because unlike 1.5 editions, this isn’t the original film with new footage added in to make it longer or better, it’s just 80-some minutes of deleted scenes and production footage. It’s not an improvement over the painfully unfunny original but nor is it any worse. If anything, it could be said to actually have a little merit in that you get a sense of the effort that went into the film’s production, which is more merit than the film itself had as just a string of obvious and contrived pranks that were funnier when done by other movies or the guys of Jackass themselves in their TV show. That said, there’s still no good reason to subject yourself to this. »

‘Frozen’ Tops Digital Sales And Rentals For 2014′s First Half

22 July 2014 3:38 PM, PDT | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

Frozen, already the all-time animation box-office champ and an Oscar winner, has added another jewel to its icy crown: Rentrak says the Walt Disney Animation feature topped the charts for the first half of 2014 in digital movie purchases and rentals on VOD and electronic sellthrough. Nearly all the other films in the top 10 were Oscar nominees too, even the Jackass-produced comedy Bad Grandpa, which snagged a nomination for best makeup and hairstyling. It appears everyone spent that very chilly winter of 2014 catching up on the Oscar contenders they didn’t watch in theaters. There is one important caveat to this list, however: It does not […] »

DVD Review – Jackass Presents Bad Grandpa .5 (2014)

21 July 2014 1:26 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Bad Grandpa .5, 2014.

Directed by Jeff Tremaine.

Starring Johnny Knoxville, Spike Jonze, Jeff Tremaine and Catherine Keener.

Synopsis:

A behind-the-scenes documentary on Bad Grandpa with over 40-minutes of never-before-seen footage.

Ever heard of a .5 movie release? I certainly hadn’t. It’s basically a “glorified behind-the-scenes doc with unseen footage,” my understandably frustrated Flickering Myth co-editor Luke Owen informed me, on the fifth time of me asking “But Why All Da Talking Headz!?” The amusing thing was, when I first began watching the film, it took about a quarter-hour for either me or my housemate to question whether this was the theatrical release. Some of that confusion comes from the cinema verite-style of Bad Grandpa itself, the rest speaks of the “glorified behind-the-scene’s doc’s” quality.

Whereas the theatrical release used the loose plot of Irving Zisman (prosthetically portrayed by Johnny Knoxville) and his grandson Billy’s (Jackson Nicoll) road »

Jackass Presents Bad Grandpa .5 Review

17 July 2014 6:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Ever since Jackass’ inception back in 2000, the crew have filmed more gags, skits and pranks than they actually have room for in the movies, which means a lot of footage never makes the final cut. For whatever reason, they were deemed not funny enough, not clever enough or just plain uninteresting. But to make use of this material and ‘give the fans what they want’, they started releasing the .5 movies, which are nothing more than glorified making of documentaries talking about the footage that was not good enough for the final product.

Last year saw Jackass depart from their usual stunt mentality to create their first movie-of-sorts with Jackass Presents Bad Grampa and, now following tradition, they’ve giving us Jackass Presents Bad Grampa .5 – and it’s exactly what you’d expect: a glorified making of that would be a special feature on any other DVD.

The HeyUGuys Instant Watching Guide – July 14th 2014

14 July 2014 4:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

In a canny move surprising few, Amazon have gone and echoed a pattern Netflix began around a year ago and nabbed a series from the Us where they will add an episode each week the day after its Us broadcast. This practice worked well with Breaking Bad and From Dusk Till Dawn in the past year and the publicity it got could well be the reason why you might encounter so many people who are only now making their way through five seasons of Breaking Bad via Netflix. So the show in question which be all exclusive up in here is the new Steven Spielberg/Halle Berry joint called Extant.

I knew nothing about this show going in and that is perhaps the best way to view it. I’m not going to claim this is the new Lost or whatever at this point but the first episode was ‘promising »

‘Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa .5′ VOD Review

Stars: Johnny Knoxville, Jackson Nicoll, Greg Harris, Georgina Cates, Kamber Hejlik, Jill Kill, Spike Jonze, Catherine Keener | Written by Jeff Tremaine, Johnny Knoxville | Directed by Jeff Tremaine

One thing I wondered when watching Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa was how many of the “real” people were actually planted, call me cynical but it is something that you can’t help but think, especially when the joke seems to go a little too far.  Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa .5 answers this question by not only revealing some of the scenes that never made it to the movie but also giving a glimpse behind the scenes of the film.

When I started to watch Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa .5 I expected to be watching the film again but with the added scenes, but this is not what you get.  This is more of a documentary looking at the making of the film and »

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa .5 Blu-ray Review

7 July 2014 8:40 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The problem with alternative comedy cuts is fairly self-evident: they’re made up of footage deemed less than what was actually released. Thus by their very make-up, they are less funny than whatever original preferred version preceded them.  Bad Grandpa .5 makes a valiant attempt to overcome these short-comings (at least for the first half) by being less a collection of unused footage and more a behind the scenes making of.  Hit the jump for my Bad Grandpa .5 Blu-ray review.  The behind-the-scenes first half tends to be the stronger section of Bg .5. Here – there’s a focus on the beginning of the “sixty-day” shoot with Johnny Knoxville admittedly less-than-enthusiastic in the early going. We watch as Knoxville undergoes the torturous make-up process to become the titular “Bad Grandpa”: Irving Zisman. This is intercut with the various incarnations of Irving over the course of each Jackass film. It’s interesting to »

Moviefone's Top DVD of the Week

"Jodorowsky's Dune"

What's It About? Cult filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky's vision for a "Dune" movie was beyond remarkable; it was truly epic. Pink Floyd, H. R. Giger, and Mick Jagger were just a few of the names attached to the film - until it imploded. This is a documentary about a sci-fi film that was ahead of its time and the visionary behind it.

Why We're In: Tons of interviews, behind-the-scenes details, storyboards, and more make this a must-see for art house, midnight movie, and film history fiends.

Moviefone's Top Blu-ray of the Week

"Point Blank"

What's It About? Lee Marvin and Angie Dickinson star in this cool crime drama about a thief who's out for revenge on the dude who double-crossed him. Mel Gibson's "Payback" was based on the same novel, "The Hunter" by Donald E. Westlake, but that shouldn't deter you. »

Humorous Clip from Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa .5

4 June 2014 11:30 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

There was a ton of prank footage that was shot and not used in Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa. Paramount Pictures decided not to let it go to waste, so they took a bunch of that footage and turned it into a new film called Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa .5. Thanks to Comingsoon we have a funny clip from that to share with you. Just so you know, it involves Irving Zisman's balls. The film's star, Johnny Knoxville, had this to say in a statement:

"So many hilarious scenes and pranks didn't make it into Bad Grandpa because they didn't make sense for the story—I'm talking five-star bits that were painful to cut from the movie. You'll get to see them all in Bad Grandpa .5 and maybe some stuff we shouldn't show you. You know how we always joke we have no clue what we're doing? Well, when you see the 'window up, »
