Storyline

A terrified Gilly arrives at Castle Black with her baby and Sam hides them in the food larder before joining his colleagues to defend the castle. As the Wildlings prepare to attack Ygritte makes it clear she wants to be the one who kills Jon and the attack is indeed savage. Ser Allister goes down fighting before putting Jon in charge and Pyp and Grenn are among the King's Guard slain though Jon puts an axe in Styr's head and the boy who survived the village attack kills Ygritte as she is about to do the same to Jon. Tormund Giantsbane is captured and put in chains but Janos Slynt goes to pieces and hides in the larder with Gilly. The attack is repulsed but Jon is aware that there will be a second wave and sets out alone to prevent it by killing Mance Rayder. Written by don @ minifie-1

Trivia

This episode, as well as the following episode "the children" were converted into the IMAX format. Both episodes will play back to back in IMAX theaters, followed by an exclusive trailer for the fifth season. They will play from January 23-29th 2015. See more »

Goofs

When Jon Snow comes down from the Wall to join the fighting below, Styr the Magnar of the Thenns is shown recognizing him and charges at him with his axe. This is wrong since Styr joins Tormund and his party in "Two Swords", which is after Jon Snow runs away from the wildlings in "The Rains of Castamere". So there is no way Styr could have recognized him in the battle. See more »

Great Battle
8 June 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

The anticipation for this battle has been a long time coming, and it didn't let me down at all. Features a very intense battle , with amazing fight scenes. I enjoyed this personally more than any of the other battle scenes. A couple of great dialogue scenes as the calm before the storm, before the battle begins.

With how this show has been about not being shy about killing off anyone, it really makes it so intense in that you feel any and all the characters are really in danger. The battle lasts for the majority of the episode and doesn't slow up from the time it begins, until it ends. This episode has some of the most amazing visuals and sets so far on Game of thrones.

With all of the giants and creatures we have been teased with, you really get to see all of it this episode. It has a long continuous shot towards the end of the battle which was pretty awesome as well. The finale next Sunday should finish off, in my opinion, the best season yet.
