The former owner and trainer of the real-life Mancs and Spider Rescue Team which employed him during his life has spoken out against this movie and called for a boycott, even demonstrated at a cinema in the city of Miskolc against its premiere. As they put it, the movie "desecrates" the memory of Mancs, it's falsifying his and the team's story. According to László Lehóczky, the real-life Mancs' former owner, he was never even called by the filmmakers and they never asked for his permission to use the hero dog's name. The demonstrations caused a huge public uproar against the movie in Hungary. See more »
a dog. his owner. the disappearance of a boy. and a great adventure. the boss, the family, the touching story who seems be a modern fairy tale, nice animation, a spoon of humor and beautiful moral lesson. and, sure, an earthquake in Transylvania. it is easy to define the script as childish. or see it as remarkable example of dog training, axis of a film in which the roles are reduced as sketch. but "Mancs" is far to be an exception. it is just one of comfortable films from the East remembering old truths without other desire to give a simple, nice story about values and about people.and this represents a virtue. because , it could be a trip in the past. because it gives an universal message. because it is the perfect story for emotion, fun and the questions of a Romanian viewer why the earthquake was imposed in Brașov and not in a town from Slovakia, Austria , Serbia or Croatia.but it is a nice , modest film. enough for a reasonable pledge for a noble cause.
