Leviathan - The Last Defence
14 July 2013 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

This anime, set on the planet Aquafall, follows the exploits of Leviathan, Bahamut and Jörmungandr; three anthromorphised female dragons and they friend Syrup a small fairy with a big appetite. The three girls each have an elementally aligned magical power; water, fire and earth respectively. As the series opens they learn that Aquafall is under threat from strange creatures dubbed Lucasites that arrived during a meteor storm and over the course of the series they work to get rid of these creatures as well as helping various people, and dragons, they meet along the way.

This isn't a great series but it is rather fun, passing the time nicely. There is a good mixture of humour and adventure and the protagonists are rather fun. Their designs may be somewhat generic but the fact that they are dragons leads to some distinctive features; most noticeably their pointed ears and strategically placed scales that keep them decent when undressed in the almost mandatory beach and hot-spring episodes! The action scenes are rather fun although I never though the protagonists were in any real danger; it just isn't that type of show. The series does have a proper conclusion but it also hints at further adventures for the girls so I wouldn't be too surprised if a second series is made one day. It might not be a must-see series but it does pass the time nicely and inoffensively.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
