Naomi's stand-up,incorporating her cancer, becomes a big success but when Emily visits from New York Effy agrees to keep the illness secret from her, accompanying her friend to chemotherapy after Emily has gone.Effy continues her affair with Jake, who confesses to problems at work. She asks Dominic for more insider information, which, feeling used,he initially refuses but eventually hints at the likely success of Morbury Mining which makes the company a huge return. As a result of this new-found wealth Effy obtains a luxury flat for herself and Naomi but is called before a tribunal, now headed by ex-boss Victoria,to account for the firm's upturn in future, due to her insider information, which she denies. To allay fears that he will be incriminated she protects Dominic,as well as having sex with him, and,on Victoria's advice, clears herself by sacrificing Jake as the culprit before going to visit the dying Naomi. Fire has been put out...
9 July 2013 | by (Greece) – See all my reviews

Although I enjoyed both episodes, I didn't like them that much. Sure, it was a trip down memory lane for about five minutes but it just didn't work out that plausibly. It was nice to see Effy finally leaving her troubled teen age behind and getting a job to provide for herself but as I see it now, that her story has ended, she was written incredibly poorly. Having suffered her mental breakdown, her brother's accident and Freddie's "disappearance", she wouldn't have ended up neither such a victim of circumstances nor a "femme fatale" adult version of her teenage years. Seriously, have the writers read any psychology books to see what would happen after all the aforementioned? As far Naomi is concerned, I would never have pictured her like a moocher, back in the day! Her story was quite terrible as it actually forced you to feel sorry for her (at the end of the first episode) but still, I didn't manage to feel *that* sorry because I hated her character from the first minute of "fire"! And I loved her in seasons 3 and 4 so... yeah... Going back to Effy again... and I know I'm repeating myself but, seriously, after everything she's been through and she acted like she didn't care at all for her friends?

POOR RESEARCH AND WRITING. That's what "fire" can be described as... It was really nice to have some kind of closure but this was definitely not what I expected or wanted...
