‘Scream’ Star Willa Fitzgerald Joins John Cusack in Indie Drama ‘Misfortune’

Willa Fitzgerald, who stars in the MTV series “Scream,” is set to join John Cusack in the indie drama “Misfortune.”

Edward Lucky McKee is set to direct. Lee Nelson and David Buelow are producing this independent feature. Production starts September 19th in Savannah, Georgia.

The story follows a business man who becomes separated from his embezzled money in the remote wilderness. Three college students discover the money while canoeing and their friendships are tested by the lure of keeping the cash.

Fitzgerald will play one of the boys’ girlfriend.

Fitzgerald’s past credits include Amazon’s “Alpha House” and “Blue Bloods.” She is currently filming the indie “Freak Show.”

She is repped by Paradigm and Principato-Young Entertainment.

The Alpha House TV show on Amazon is effectively cancelled, but at yesterday's TCA press session, Amazon Studio boss Roy Price chose to categorize it as not being a "current" show. That said, there is a chance Garry Trudeau's Capitol Hill comedy, starring John Goodman, could be renewed for a third season. Amazon Still Facing Hurdles as Prime Video Volume Grows

Amazon’s volume of original TV shows and movies is growing at a fast clip. But the world’s largest retailer is still battling a disconnect with some consumers in providing easy access to its menu of original content.

That list includes David E. Kelley, the prominent exec producer of its new Billy Bob Thornton-William Hurt legal drama series “Goliath.”

“I am a little daunted by the fact that Amazon shows aren’t the easiest to watch,” Kelley admitted Sunday following the show’s session at the Television Critics Association press tour at the Beverly Hilton.

Amazon Studios is on a TV spending spree – but there’s a ceiling.

The company doubled its series production budget in the second half of 2015 vs. the previous year, just as Amazon Prime subscribers were up 47% in the U.S. year-to-year.

“It’s on an upward trajectory,” said Amazon Studios boss Roy Price, who touted the service’s new and returning series to reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour on Sunday. Upcoming new entries include David E. Kelley’s “Goliath,” starring Billy Bob Thornton, and Woody Allen’s “Crisis in Six Scenes.”
