It's definitely trippin'!

Honeybee is like one of those delectably enjoyable sweets which linger slowly onto your taste buds and remains there. I have to admit, I was prepared to dislike this film or pass it off as one of those very average meaningless flicks which get a great run at the ticket windows purely based on the majority audience's tendency to promote mediocre fare in the name of entertainment.

Full of meaning it may not be, but genuinely fun and endearing it surely is. But a word of warning to older viewers or those who don't like much cuss words and alcohol/drugs in their movies – stay away. I'm not a fan of promoting intoxicants in the movies, but this was done very naturally here and you do tend to believe that there are plenty of groups of friends like that shown in the movie. However, I do think it takes a younger audience to appreciate it more fully.

The basic storyline is nothing much. A group of friends live and party together in some part of the city and they seem to be involved in organizing dance shows or performances. This aspect is not focused on much in the movie. Two of this group is Seb (Asif Ali) and Angel (Bhavana) who are a bit closer to each other. However, all is fine till the days up to Angel's wedding, when she confronts Seb and asks whether the love bug ever bit him. Though he answers in the negative then, later in a state of drunken stupor he realizes the folly of letting her go and hatches a plan with the rest of the gang to kidnap her from her home the night before her wedding. What happens next after they wake up the next morning and Angel's fearsome brothers (led by Lal) decide to hunt them down forms the rest of the story.

What works here big time is the camaraderie and chemistry between the friends. Of particular mention should be the antics of Baburaj and Sreenath Bhasi who prove to be the life and soul of the film and provide genuine hilarity. Both have been growing from strength to strength in the last couple of years, though ironically both are at different ends of their careers. Asif Ali and Bhavana are fine, but I can't shake off the funny feeling that both are pretty lucky actors who have made by in their careers with some pretty average abilities and the luck to be associated with some good filmmakers and supporting actors. Maybe they will prove me wrong yet, but this is not the movie for that. Lal (the director's father) appears as the head of the gang of fearsome brothers and is amply supported by Suresh Krishna and the others.

All in all, a genuinely fun watch with some original comedy rather than the recycled muck the superstars and old time filmmakers keep dishing out – but like I said, may not be suited for all families.

Full Of Filth & Lewdness. ♦ 23%

So, Lal's son wants to direct a movie. He says he's inspired by his father. Not a single scene turns out to be Lal's inspiration. The film only causes revulsion.

It starts off with a sequence no relation whatsoever to the main plot which unfortunately doesn't have a valid story. Kili Poyi was the first Malayalam stoner film. This could be second with the level of alcohol/drugs depiction astronomical. A bunch of drunkards trying to save a couple from the clutches of the girl's mafia brothers? Ridiculous. And the comedy is brought out by vulgar representations, lewd dialogs and salacious references. Respectable artists mouthing such debauched remarks are the last thing I could imagine.

Asif Ali aims a potshot at Fahadh Faasil. That directly evinces his unprofessionalism. His character can be described in one word: DESPICABLE. Bhavana disappoints with - raunchy costumes, inviting stances and blown-up portrayal. Lal's & Suresh Krishna's portrayals are good. Baburaj is the only person who entertains. The supporting cast try very hard to amuse, but fail.

Skrillex playing in the background during poignant scenes, substandard editing, grueling plot, average screenplay, meaningless narration and some superfluous relationships underlying are what Honey Bee is all about. A merciless 2.3/10 for this claptrap.

BOTTOM LINE: Not recommended. Teenagers who get excited with on-screen obscenity, vulgar jokes & obnoxious references can go & enjoy.

Can be watched with a typical Indian family? NO

Profanity: Mediocre | Nudity: No | Vulgarity: Critical | Sex/Foreplay: No; Implied | Violence: Very Critical | Gore: Critical | Smoking/Alcohol: Strong | Drugs: Mediocre

Not at all tripping

Honey bee is a blatantly boring new generation film. It tells the story of Seban (Asif Ali) and Angel (Bhavana). Asif ali, Bhavana,Baburaj,Sreenath bhasi,Archana kavi etc are a group of friends who live in Kochi, enjoying their lives. Lal, Suresh Krishna and another guy, are the brothers of Bhavana. They're actually a group of wealthy goons who would go to any extend to protect their loved ones.

So, one day Bhavana's marriage gets arranged with a guy. At that point of time, Bhavana finds out that she is attracted towards Asif ali. When she says this to Asif, he says that he does not have any feelings like that towards her. Later, when he gets drunk, he finds out that he is actually in love with Bhavana. Then, he along with his friends (Baburaj, sreenath bhasi etc) go to bhavana's house on the eve of marriage and elopes with her. What ensues is a chase between Lal, accompanied by his brothers and Asif ali along with his friends.

The plot is really weak. Lewd jokes, drinking scenes, drug using scenes are abundant in Honey bee. The comedy is mainly slapstick and fails to tickle the viewer. At many a point I wondered why everyone else in the theatre was laughing like anything for jokes that were not even mildly good. The performance of the cast too is very bad. Only Lal, Suresh Krishna and Sreenath bhasi have done justice to their roles. Sreenath has succeeded like anything in portraying his role.

Baburaj fails miserably at humour. Both Bhavana and Asif ali gives us below average performances.

As this is a new generation movie, don't even think of watching this along with the family. But, as this movie is really, really bad, don't even think of watching it with your friends or all alone. It is that boring.

I think Lal jr. should not make any more movies of this type. Try something else.

I don't know more about Jean Lal i know that he is the son of Lal. this is a movie like v have comedy and the best story and the best payer for Asif Ali and Bhavana and good guest roles. And the thing is that he included his father Lal also in the film as one of guest roles. actually

on my vacations i saw over 20 or more times. some films will get bored if we see it 2 or more times. but this is not like that. this is a picture that can be seen how many times they want. films like kilikum cant be seen 2 or more times. the only film i saw this much time is this one.

Full Tripping...

First of all leave all your worries behind and watch any movie before criticizing . Approach with an open mind when you watch any movie with a critic mind. This movie will take you into a 2hours of pure entertainment. The non-stop jokes and good music is surely a plus point of this movie. Besides everything, having a good time is only thing you expect from a good comedy movie. Screenplay is very fast and technically the film is magnificent in all aspects.

I'm sure this film will have its detractors, but frankly, if you don't wet yourself laughing while watching this, there's something wrong with you.

Enjoy, because its TRIPPINGGGGGGG.....
