These comments refer to the whole story not just episode two.
An old friend of DI Perez returns to Shetland but not long after they see each other he is found dead in his car at the bottom of a cliff. Initially it looks like an accident but Perez isn't so sure. His friend was a journalist and Perez thinks his death may have been linked to a story he was writing about a new, controversial gas pipeline that is planned for the island. Wanting to be certain that it was murder he calls in an expert from the mainland; she isn't so sure but when another body turns up it looks as though Perez was right. As the investigation continues more motives emerge along with more suspects.
This was another entertaining mystery although possibly not quite as good as the opening story of the series possible because by now the setting seems less exotic. There are plenty of motives and by the end almost every non-police character is a suspect so it will be as much luck as judgement if you work out who did it and why! The cast, which includes several TV regulars does a good job and keeps things believable even though the series is set somewhere where murder is incredibly rare. The creators are also to be to be congratulated for avoiding the cliché of introducing a romance when Perez called in a female forensics expert. Overall this was pretty good; fans of murder mysteries should certainly enjoy it.
