Storyline

Six years ago, star defense lawyer Karel Allegaerts quit penal law after his passionate plea failed to prevent the jury conviction of Daisy Vanderweghen for the murder by drowning in his farm's cesspit of husband Albert Knockaert, reluctant adoptive father of her adolescent son Daan. Now she's eligible for parole, but Karel refuses to defend her. She turns to his son in law, naive psychologist Jonas Vertommen. He risks his marriage by digging tirelessly for the unsavory truth, getting no support from Daan, who wants to emigrate to Canada now he finally finished the computer studies his pigheaded, abusive stepfather opposed, after a time in juvenile as minor accomplice, nor from Daisy's then lover Stef Geraerts, who kept visiting both of them.
