There was a time when we let storytellers tell "their" story's. We went along for the ride. My point is if you want to do the driving, tell for own story. These terms like "filler" should be used for weak storytelling and obvious displays of such. "Demimonde" is a very light to dark transition over the scope of the episode. Well written and paced. It pauses. It breathes slowly. It slaps you in the face a couple of times. Brona, the terrier. It shows Ethan's overwhelming sense of the opposing pressure til it culminates. But then, that's if your actually watching and going along with the story and not just waiting for your expectations to be met. You see you have to care. If you don't, well that's on you as the viewer most times. Well done film artist.

Lacking in subtlety and somewhat gratuitous

Although still a lot more watchable than most of the tosh on telly these days this episode is definitely the weakest as of this point. Dorian Gray continues to be the centre of the excessive sex of the show with the intro of this episode being a glorified peep show for the director but we do get a nice moment of him with the famous picture if only brief. the highlight of this episode is definitely the dynamic between Hartnet's Chandler and Piper's Croft. the scenes of animal violence with the cat as well as the dog and the rats later in the episode are somewhat gratuitous although the latter draws some nice parallels to Ethan's inner struggle so it can be forgiven a little. I also found the singer from Years and Years rather irritating and overacted. Overall I'd probably say this is a light 7, definitely the weakest so far.

I am in Love with this show. Every episode gets better. I was initially unhappy with Reeve Carney being casted as Dorian Gray. But the actor grows on you. He looks very promising in this episode Frankenstein and his monster rule the show. It is beautifully executed. Loving every min of this show.
Ruined the main character....

This episode inserted something that shouldn't have been there. My girlfriend saw it coming before I did and I was in denial until it happened. It's the absinthe scene with Dorian and the gunslinger. Strangely I could have gotten past it but she could not. It was way out of character and was put there to appeal to, certain groups. Made no sense and there was no indication the gunslinger character was that way inclined. She cant watch this series any further. Such a shame, I was quite enjoying it but I'm not watching it by myself and she was outraged at the ruining of the main character. Reminds me when they did it in Black Sails, that pirate series. Stopped watching that one too. Inserting that stuff is just wrong and it was the end for that series too. This is where we get off.
Dorian can't get enough of himself.

Frankenstein confers with a blood doctor (hematologist) and figures that the blood sample has properties that basically allow it to digest blood or some such thing. I believe it means the blood is from a vampire!
Chandler and Brona go to the theater where we get to see Frankie's monster working in the rafters. He seems to be good at his job. Now if only his master can find him a wife. Brona leaves in a huff and I kind of hope she never comes back.
At the theater Gray also shows up and makes eyes at Vanessa. Something about him just doesn't sit right with me. The smugness, fake charm or what have you grates on me. He just can't get enough of himself and it is quite tedious.
Chandler gets accosted by 4 Brits who get a pummeling and then Gray sets his sights on Chandler and we get to see Gray's extensive collection of cologne. Oh and in the beginning we get to see lots of nude women at Gray's house and he looks utterly bored so he goes upstairs later and we get to see him pull the cover off of a huge painting but we don't get to see what the painting is. Gee, what could it be?
Starting to lose interest more...there seems to be a lot of filler around the main plot (the rescue of Mina?). It is only the fourth episode so this all could change.
